It happens to the best of us.

I did that on the last piece of fabric on a pattern where there was no more fabric like it anywhere. I ended up splicing pieces together. It did quilt out but I KNOW it's there. Can you cut all of the squares down to 7 1/2? You would lose in size but your pattern might be OK.

I would piece a few of those odd squares together and re cut them to the right size. A few seams down the middle of a couple of squares will be un- noticeable when the quilt is done, unless it is a fussy cut of special fabric of some kind.
You can conquer this too! peace |
When I first started quilting, I bought some 9 patch squares, tiny green polka dots and beige tone on tone. Not knowing what I was going to do with them but they were real reasonable. Much to my amazement, I found the identical fabrics in my stash so I decided to make them into an Irish chain. I asked my DH to cut me 24, 8" squares out of the tone on tone beige. Although he is a perfectionist with his projects, he cut them 7" x 8". I haven't touched them since as I don't know what to do with them. I will be interested in some of the replies as I don't have enough fabric left to do them over. Good Luck

I hate when that happens. Of course I can measure "correctly" and still not come out right. you could change the pattern slightly and go with the 7.5 x8.5 or you could perhaps cut those blocks down and use them as a border.

Sorry this happened but at least you'll never make this mistake again! (I make plenty of mistakes but seldom the same one twice. I keep finding new ones!) Can you make your project with 7 1/2 squares? If not, it's probably a restart. Good luck!
Ben Franklin said that experience was a dear school and a fool would learn in no other. Apparently I am working toward my "fool" status and have not yet passed that stage. BUT I am having fun and I don't pressure myself with perfection. No quilt shows for me. What happens, happens. |

Ditto to what Tartan said.

I suggest using them for another quilt and start over. It will save time and sanity

So happens!! I recently cut 2 1/2" squares - only to realize I cut them 2 1/4". Just saved them in my scraps and I'm hoping one day to do a real scrappy quilt and these puppies will work great.
