Ohhh....I've just got to share this.....

Last year I made a quilt for my sister in Germany. It was the first time I bought all the fabric and material for it new :) The pattern of the fabric was called "under the Australian sun" and it was quite expensive (didn't want to be stingy with something for my sister) and I send it off beginning of December. It never arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( I thought someone had stolen it in transit, Australia Post could tell me it had left the country but after that.....they lost trace.... I thought well maybe the container has fallen off the ship and some shark was having a great time with it.....
UNTIL YESTERDAY....!!!! My sister rang me all excited.....her quilt has arrived!!!!!!!!!!! Yippee!!! and that after nearly 6 months in transit. There you go, you should never loose hope!!! I so often prayed for this quilt to somehow turn up, so YES thank you Lord!!! She was thrilled and of course I was too :) A HAPPY ENDING :)

RedGarnet222 05-28-2014 01:18 PM

Wow! They have pony express there? Dang that took a very long time in transit. I wish it could talk and tell us where it has been.

Tartan 05-28-2014 01:22 PM

Wow, it must have been on a slooow boat. Thank goodness it arrived.

RipStitcher 05-28-2014 01:30 PM

You know.. don't you.... that this means you should be sending this year's gift to her right about now!

:)

All kidding aside, so glad you had such a nice surprise!

Good for both of you!!!

athomenow 05-28-2014 01:50 PM

I'm so happy that worked out for you. I honestly don't know where packages go, perhaps on a little holiday before ending up where they should be. Glad it arrived and she's happy!
I always put all the tracing on my packages I can. At least I have some idea where things went wrong. Usually it's the driver putting it off at the wrong address and the person being dishonest enough to keep it.

DonnaPBradshaw 05-28-2014 02:10 PM

so happy for you! If I send a quilt in the mail I think I will make sure to pay the extra money to ensure it!

PaperPrincess 05-28-2014 02:23 PM

Yay!!!! I have some of that fabric in red, I'm sure your quilt was just stunning!

Yes, I know this would be a wise move but then if you insure it for ...say $200 or $300 the problem is that then on the other end they will have to pay a fortune on custom duties....something you don't want to impose on anyone you are making a present for... But I will make sure at least I will send it by registered mail!!! :)

QuiltnNan 05-28-2014 02:35 PM

fantastic !

scrapinmema 05-28-2014 02:43 PM

mommysewist 05-28-2014 04:19 PM

Wow so happy for you!! That would've broken my heart! I bet she's thrilled!

Quilter 65 05-28-2014 06:01 PM

I am glad that it turned up after waiting so long. I think a book I recently ordered must be on the same slow boat! I imagine she will enjoy her new treasure even more.

DogHouseMom 05-28-2014 06:27 PM

Whew!!! Happy dance!!

coopah 05-28-2014 06:53 PM

That's great news! It sure would be interesting to know what adventures the quilt went on for all these months. Too bad we'll never know! :D

joyce888 05-28-2014 07:15 PM

OMG I would have been freaking out! So happy to hear of good outcome.

It's like having Christmas in July (almost). Happy for both of you. I love Christmas, no matter what time of the year!

A trip around the World!!!!!

ManiacQuilter2 05-29-2014 03:05 AM

I am so GLAD it arrived safe and sound. My best friend made a cute baby quilt, sent it in a USPS priority envelope and when it was delivered, only the priority printout delivery form arrived without the package. The missing package with the quilt was never found. She has to make another. Make sure always tape the label down securely.

jo ford 05-29-2014 03:14 AM

So glad it finally arrived. Every quilt has a story. This makes it even more of a treasure.

KwiltyKahy 05-29-2014 04:57 AM

Sounds like it took a trip around the world. So glad it finally showed up.

SusanSusan33 05-29-2014 08:28 AM

What a great ending to your story! I'm sure your sister is blessed by being wrapped in the quilt and wrapped in your love!!

feline fanatic 05-29-2014 08:34 AM

A wonderful happy ending to what I am sure was a very sad 6 months thinking it was gone forever.

tessagin 05-29-2014 08:37 AM

So happy for all parties involved. Would love to see a photo of it!

Jingle 05-29-2014 10:59 AM

Was it on the Nina, Pinta, or Santa Maria......

loisf 05-29-2014 12:33 PM

What a happy ending! The other day when I heard about a Fed Ex tractor/trailer that caught fire and burned on the highway (no one was injured), the first thing I thought of was, "I hope there were no quilts on that truck."

I had posted a photo of it on my thread called "Australian Wildflowers" on 16.11.2013 :)

I'm so glad it finally arrived! And I am glad a shark did not end up with it!

nannyrick 05-29-2014 04:56 PM

I,m so glad, for your sake, that it arrived. WOW, what a long time. Thought our mail system was slow, LOL.

twinkie 05-30-2014 02:22 AM

So glad it turned out well for you and your sister.

giquilt 05-30-2014 02:27 AM

So great it got there. For your sister, great things come to thoses who wait!!

Moonglow 05-30-2014 02:30 AM

So glad that the quilt arrived safely after all that time.

katesnanna 05-30-2014 02:32 AM

Happy for you that the quilt finally arrived but how ridiculous that it took sooooooooo long. I regularly buy from the States and it usually takes about 2 weeks. Was it sitting in customs? I believe this does happen in some countries.

Of course I didn't send it by Air Mail - the cost of postage have just gotten so ridiculously high in Australia, it puts you off wanting to make presents... :( - but even with "economy" it shouldn't take any longer than 3 months. I have sent quilts overseas before and they were only in transit for 2-3 months, never any longer so yes, I do wonder where it got stuck.....

Yooper32 05-30-2014 03:49 AM

Six months! Do you suppose they shipped it by row-boat? What a situation, unbelievable. Something had to have glitched in the middle somewhere, like put on a shelf and buried at some PO, or something.
