No, its Rich Mtn just 14 miles from Mena. Mt. Mag is the highest point in Arkansas. I've been there too....its awesome as well!

I attended a Linus Blanket making day this past February. For me it was as good as going on a retreat away from home. I was able to talk with others in from our area and sew a special quilt to be donated to the Linus Project. I learned from others and have good memories of the day spent at the hospital conference room making quilts with others. They did not provide lunch (tight finances this year) but they did have chocolates and snacks.
This is one type of retreat. Away from the family for a day.

I think I will pass on that one! I just would like a nice simple homey retreat with some gals of like interests!

Marsye , I've been to Retreats that were quite structured with classes. That was a lot of fun, at Cedar Lodge, Blackstrap, in Saskatchewan , Canada. We had rooms in the lodge, & the most wonderful food, a view of the frozen lake, where they were ice fishing. Then I've been to one in a community hall in a small town near here, where we quilt, quilt, quilt & share & just have fun. They cook for us but we went home to sleep.It's just a wonderful holiday away from our sewing room, cooking & the telephone. Would go to more if I could afford it.

We can get into the quilting retreat thing later, right now I am trying to get over that sweet, sweet bunny ! I want one.

Would have to bring my Hubby too. We don't do much of anything without each other. By choice of course. Also now, in our later years, it's medically necessary anyway. Lucky for me I can't thing of anyone i'd rather be with. He's also a great coffee maker not to mention his spaghetti sauce. Love reading everything you write. You are one heck of a woman !!!

Where are you located? My sister has a cottage in Wolverine and we go up there to sew on week-ends. It would be fun to meet. Send a PM if you'd like to meet up for breakfast sometime, or come to her cottage and sew. We won't be going up again until sometime in probably late July/early August. She's having knee surgery the 15th of June.

One of the guys did a quick demo on the "Tater Bag". Another gal showed quick table runners. One of the gals did a purse demo. It was a lot of fun and a great get-away. We all hated to leave. There were some beautiful quilts made that week-end. Also some vests, jackets, blouses, and one gal brought her brand new Pfaff embroidery machine so she could just sit, read the manual, and find out how it works. And, of course, she got to network with others and it was a big help for her to learn her machine.

Some retreats are more structured, have a guest speaker (Lipinski did one not far from here last fall) and you all work on a similar quilt or design. Either way they are a lot of fun.

i live in nw in,would LOVE to try a retreat if it wasn't too expensive !i just started quilting again after 10-11 yrs, stopped after dh died in 01.he had just bought me a brother pc6000,& a new serger.felt SO guilty looking at them every time i went into laundry/sewing room! great friend kept at me ,finally started again !have only finished a baby quilt for ggd,but have 2 full size ready to sandwich,so off to a good start. i get up to check this board every am !! you are all so helpful, i've learned a lot from all of you ! thanx !!!!!feel almost as if i know you .great company when i'm alone & need a friend. sorry this is so long,TOLD you i feelas if i know you ! love,dar

The retreat I went on was about $180 for Thurs. thru Sun. but it didn't include meals. Of course, we all brought goodies to share. The conference room had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and the hotel provided a big urn of ice water. We went out for our meals and there were several reasonably priced restaurants around. And, of course, lots of shopping available.
