I think you need to think about what will work FOR YOU. Everyone has their own system of what works for them.

For fabric--do you buy mostly fat quarters? Larger amounts of yardage? Do you buy for one project at a time or do you have an ever growing stash? Now--what will work better for your fabric storage? Do you want open shelves so that you can see your fabrics? Will plastic bins work better for you so you can sort by color or type of fabric? Or stacking drawers? They come in wood, wire, or plastic.

Are you a notion junkie? Do you have lots of rulers? Do you like to have everything right at your fingertips and in plain view or do you like the sleek look of everything stored away and out of sight? You can use peg board and hang LOTS of items---threads, rulers, etc. Or you can store mats and rulers flat in a cabinet. Your thread can be stored in a thread case or hung on a thread holder on the wall.

There are so many places to buy organization tools for your quilt room. And you do not have to spend a fortune either. Look at Walmart, Lowe's, Staples, your local thrift store, yard sales, etc. You can spend as much or as little on organizing your space as you can afford. You just need to decide what works for you.

I bought this book and found the tips and hints in it to be wonderful. You may be able to find it in your local library too.

Going to check out that book for the new house - might as well get it right from the start. Love the ruler idea too - think DH might even be able to make that - he is not too handy!

I want the room on the front of the book

In the process of moving my sewing room to another room, so I desperately need ideas also Love all of the above and will ask DH to make me a board for my rulers, I love that one.

I think we are all different. some of us need peace and organization to work and some of us do well in a little clutter.

I have one Ninnie. I got it at Joanns. It may not be that big but it works well

Ii don't know if you have an Ikea close by. But they have some great square baskets. I use baskets for everything, Large and small. They also have wooden desk organizers that are great for holding rulers, scissors, etc. They have magazine file boxes and pretty heavy duty boxes with lids in all sizes. Everything is very reasonable.

Have fun.

I found clear plastic baskets at Dollartree to put fat quarters in. They come in different colors so you can coordinate with the fabric.
I also have peg board to hang rulers etc. on.
I have a hanging fabric shelf in the closet for fabric. Also a metal shelf and plastic drawers all full of fabric. Out of room now what?
I have small plastic drawers for odds and ends and notions. Nine drawers so far.
Batting is on the top shelf of the closet.
A small bookcase for books and mags, which is too full already.
I took over the master bedroom and am out of room already.

My fabric is stored in a wardrobe. Bins (smaller ones) sitting on top of each other 5-6 high. I've been after DH to put shelves in the bottom of, so that I could have just 2 stacked, but he has yet to do it.

I like my clear bins, though. I have fabric sorted by color and I can see without labels. It keeps smaller pieces contained, too. But I don't have a HUGE stash - yet.

If you can keep colors sorted, but have a place for "leftovers" and "crumbs" that would be fabulous.

Can't wait to see what it looks like.
Keep us posted.
