OK so I went overboard....

You guys will like this. We were at our HS football game (last game of regular season, Go T Birds!!!!) last Wednesday night and I did something I don't normally do - I bought a 50/50 raffle ticket. And I WON!! $248!!!!
So I immediately donated $50 to the North Branford Cheer Club (DD is a cheerleader), then each family member got $25. And I got a haircut.

Then I went to Joanna's Saturday.

I BOUGHT 46 YARDS OF FABRIC. I got 3 yards each of 11 different colors and 13 yards of blizzard fleece to make no sew blankets for the 3 kids and one for myself.

I thought I was bad wandering around with all these bolts to be cut but apparently one woman came in and bought enough blizzard fleece to fill 12 large bags!!

And I can't fit any more fabric in my closets.

I think i am a hoarder!!!!! Or nuts.......

crafty pat 11-28-2012 08:39 AM

If you are a hoarder then I am right up there with you. What a wonderful way to spend your winnings. Lucky you, have fun.

Tartan 11-28-2012 08:53 AM

Congratulations on your win and your fabric haul!

Grandma Bonnie 11-28-2012 09:27 AM

Congrats! Sounds like you spent your winnings wisely!

Mom3 11-28-2012 09:35 AM

Oh, geez, what would you do if you won the lottery which is up to $500,000,000? :)

You could buy me a HQ Sweet Sixteen and I'd be REAL happy!

Seriously, congrats!

tlambing 11-28-2012 09:39 AM

Congrats on your winnings!

I didn't even win anything and spent $150.00 at Joanns last wknd ;)

Couldn't pass up the doorbuster sales!

quiltsRfun 11-28-2012 09:56 AM

Good for you! Whenever I get unexpected income I treat myself. I have a gift card right now that I'm trying to decide how to spend. Not as much as you had so I'm weighing my options carefully.

alisonquilts 11-28-2012 10:00 AM

Congrats on your win, and I like the "everybody wins!" way you spent it. As for the storage - sounds like you'll be moving a bunch of the fleece out pretty quickly...

Congrats on our win!!!! Sounds like you had a lot of fun!!!!!

susansomethings 11-28-2012 11:12 AM

Funny I should read this thread ...as I was just sitting here thinking about what I would do with the money if I won the BIG lottery that everyone is talking about! What was my first thought...yep fabric..LOL. I don't play the lottery but the thought was fun. So glad you were able to enjoy your winning! Congradulations.

Grandma Peg 11-28-2012 11:21 AM

That was so cool to win the 50/50 drawing, shared with your family and treated youself! Co oool..

nannyrick 11-28-2012 11:23 AM

Good for you!! You had fun, right.

QM 11-28-2012 11:25 AM

Congratulations! I have the same space problem, but might well do the same.

francie yuhas 11-28-2012 12:37 PM

You are not a hoarder...you are a collector!

LoupEsprit 11-28-2012 01:29 PM

I missed all the sales, but I still have to sneak off to Joanns this payday to get satin binding to finish a baby quilt... it was a bit smaller than I expected, so i need to add a wide binding to 'expand' it without ordering more fabric.

lynnie 11-28-2012 01:40 PM

Great for you, and fabric is not hoarding
It creativity not done yet

AliKat 11-28-2012 08:25 PM

You can't possible be a hoarder because you have ideas on how to use all that material ... and you will.

[I didn't say how long it would take.]

Painiacs 11-28-2012 08:35 PM

Congratulations! How cool to share! As far as being a hoarder.... hmmmm. i prefer to thinki am giving orphan fabric a home! Yes, yeah thats it! Thats my story! You can never have too much fabric if your a sewer/ quilter or too many books if you love to read! I do both! I have fabric stuffed everywhere and books in stacks:-)!

craftyheart2 11-29-2012 01:53 AM

Congratulations and a great way to spend your winnings. You shared it round very well and I am sure you will enjoy your fabrics.

salemrabbits 11-29-2012 02:47 AM

congrats on your win, I had the devil whispering in one ear to GO to JoAnns and buy, buy, buy....BUT the angel in my other ear said......no, no, no...you have enough! Wow, I had to struggle between the internet JoAnns and driving an hour to my closest store-since I am a doorbuster person on Black Friday to JoAnns, guess what? I stayed HOME! Finally got control of the urge somewhat anyway, still had to keep myself in check for Saturdays sale....yep, stayed home. I would have been cheering you on at your store, I just need to use some of my stash and keep up at making the crumb blocks that are my fabric therapy from all those little snippets- which I totally love doing.

salemrabbits 11-29-2012 02:52 AM

AliCat: I love your theory on hoarding......if you have an ideas for your stash it's not hoarding- just no time frame. Try telling that to the family member in this house whom looks at the boxes and gets upset at the clutter! Good thing he doesn't open the trunk of my car-that is where I "stash" the quilts I am working on currently-yep..plural for more than one quilt- and the fabrics needed to work on them. PS the trunk is full of quilting "stuff" and probably 9 quilts in all stages. I'm working on it weekly, so many ideas-so little time!

JustAbitCrazy 11-29-2012 04:16 AM

Good thing you didn't win that Powerball, huh? Lol! I see you're not from one of the two states with a winner. I didn't win, either. Wonder if either winner is a quilter?!

topstitch 11-29-2012 04:32 AM

My thought is that "collecting" fabric can never be considered hoarding. Don't you agree?

Battle Axe 11-29-2012 04:47 AM

Good thing you didn't win that 500 millions dollar lottery last night. There would not be enough fabric for the rest of us!

jitkaau 11-29-2012 05:16 AM

Strength to your arm - it costs that much for supplies for one quilt in my neck of the woods. If you are able to hoard, you should go for it.

MaryAnnMc 11-29-2012 05:17 AM

Congratulations!! How fun. Isn't it nice you didn't hesitate? I would probably spend so much time trying to decide how to spend it, it would end up at the grocery store. Good for you.

jamsbuying 11-29-2012 06:16 AM

Wow, enjoy!!

Caswews 11-29-2012 06:25 AM

LOL congratulations !!!

Scakes 11-29-2012 07:40 AM

Congratulations. Sounds like a Win-Win situation for everyone. Have fun with your new fabrics. :)

Nope , not a hoarder , a squirrel. Squirrels save for bad weather and you are saving for later. BTW great job with what ya did for your family. great win !!!

Stitchit123 11-29-2012 08:44 AM

Congrats on your win. Its okay to hoard fabrics-it is not okay to hoard dust collecting items. And its kinda nice being a nut.So I say enjoy being a nutty hoarder.

luvstoquilt 11-29-2012 08:51 AM

Sounds like you are a quilter to me! I spent $179. at Joann's on Sunday. I went because I had a 60% off one regular priced item and I couldn't resist...I never found a thing that was regular price so I just took advantage of sales! Sigh...I think we are all the same!

Zyngawf 11-29-2012 08:57 AM

I'm making a deal with myself. If I make a huge crazy quilt with all of my scraps I am allowed to buy whatever I want once it is finished.

no i don't think you are, i live north of the border and the prices down your way are so much better i order constantly. just last week i received 4 parcels one with 38 yards of fabric, one with 18 yards, the 3rd with 12 and then the other with 6 pks of 10 fat quarters. my husband just shakes his head. i have tried putting myself on a self imposed moritorium but it didn't last. lol pray for me i am hopeless.
:D

Lori S 11-29-2012 09:11 AM

Your not a hoarder.. you just lived out a fantasy!

JNCT14 11-29-2012 12:20 PM

OMG I just LOVED the comments!!!!!! Ya see as i walked up the aisles, the fabrics were calling to me in needy little voices...'...take me take me I am sooo alooone...I need a forever home....'
HAHAHA
BTW I never thought about the trunk to my car. Hmmmmmm.....:P

MargeD 11-29-2012 12:41 PM

From one "stash builder" to another - CONGRATULATIONS. Isn't it great when you can win something, share it with others and still have time to shop for fabric? One thing for sure you are not nuts, and I'm envious of all that new fabric.

hperttula123 11-29-2012 01:09 PM

Congrats on your win!!! I would have bought fabric too. ;)

KyKaren1949 11-29-2012 02:46 PM

Love it!!!
