Hm, if you add new over old, do you use double binding or single binding? Doesn't it get too thick? (I just noticed that my favorite quilt is getting frayed on the binding.)

I am curious. My first thought when I read this post would be to remove the first binding and then add the new one. But the consensus seems to be to leave the original one on. Is that to maintain the original integrity of the quilt? It seems like it would be harder to go over the first on. Why leave it on? I am just wondering. TIA

I've re-binded several old quilts. I leave the original one on and just cover with the new. Never had a problem

Being an Antiquer...and value..leave old and cover...If you don't care abt yrs from now and value then remove.

That was my question - whether removal affected the antique value. I have no experience in that area, and so my question.
