Is This an Old Quilt Pattern?
1 Attachment(s)
I've never seen this one before. Have you?
|
it looks like a variation of grandmother's flower garden where each hex is made with 6 "pieces of the pie" and every other one is white.
|
Wow that is different looks like a fresh new quilt
|
NO I have not
|
I like it! I haven't seen it either. Have tried the old Google image search, so far no luck...
I wonder why they didn't have the info about the quilt on a paper beside it... |
Those are six kite shapes making each small circle. Then 7 of those are arranged in a circle (with one in the center) the same way a Seven Sisters pattern is formed, with green diamonds and triangles joining the circles. But I don't know the name of the pattern offhand. Not one which is often seen, for sure.
|
I could see the large hexagon, made up by the smaller blocks that have the pie shaped wedges/ kite pieces... I'm trying to figure out easiest way it would be put together...hmmm...
|
Missouri Star quilt Co. has the template for this. I just saw someone asking about it on facebook.
|
You might inquire at the website Paperpieces.com. They might know the information. It certainly doesn't look old probably made with current reproduction fabrics.

Here's a picture of the whole quilt. It is from the thirties. A lady in Canada said that it was called Princess Pea and that the crown was always in green.

I quilted one of these recently. My customer hand pieced it. Her color placement made the quilt look quite different. She never did tell me where she found the pattern. Here are links to my posts about it:

This pretty quilt has my curiosity peaked, so I tried to do a search for princess pea quilt pattern.....no luck! Anyone here find it?
|
Do an Amazon search for "Drafting & Design Simplified". There is a great section on how to draft hexagons and all the different shapes you can come up with using them---including this "kite" shape. Super fun and easy!

Isn't the name __?__pinwheel?
|
No, can't say that I've seen that exact pattern. It is very exciting and I can picture making it in a variety of colors.
|
My sister wrote to the museum and that is the name they told her. Princess Pea.

It looks like six hex's place around a center hex.. then set with triangles to fit them together..
From my remembering we used to make the hex.s and set them together then decide how many of the sets of hex.s would fit across the bed we wanted to cover and how many it would take to make enough rows for the length..then the end rows were made with half a set to fill each of the scoulup of the rows.. If you make a circle around the one of the sets of six with one in the center you can |
see the pattern..especially in the second picture..
This makes a beautiful quilt and the quilting done on the 2 other examples is fabulous..I want to make one!! |
I do not know the age of this quilt, but it is very beautiful.
