After it has been dry cleaned, try having professional pictures taken of it. If it cannot handle the dry cleaning, then just do the professional pictures, they would make great art work. Add a hankie or doily to it for that shabby chic look.

The historical value alone would prevent me from doing anything but admire from afar. I agree with illinois that a museum is a good choice if grands or great grand children don't want to wear it. Those old, really old, dresses are a treasure. Especially if the marriage lasted that long!

If you have family members who are single you could make wedding satin pillows for ring barrier. I made one from an old dress I bought at rummage,I also took a sm basket with handle and sprayed it white, then I took a little pillow foam I glued to bottom than I added the satin all the way around inside of basket.i then sewed lace and beads from dress to edges of basket. I made some satin ribbon to make a bow for handle. You could make the pillows for future generations as a keep sake to have something old for bride.

I made fabric hearts for all of my niece's out of their grandmother's wedding dress. Used old buttons and some of her jewelery to embellish and did some embroidery. Each of the is about 8 inches tall. They look like very small pillows. We all display them in crystal or glass bowls in February. There are lots of ideas and examples on pinterest.
