I find myself in the same boat.

Time to:

'walk away from the computer'

'step away from that keyboard'

"slowly now, push the 'off' button'

'let go of the mouse'

'Now - go sew/quilt!'

Did that work for anyone?
It didn't work for me today either. Good luck.

;)

Hi David,

I have the same problem, only mine includes the washing, cooking, cleaning, ironing etc! LOL LOL LOL

Tweety2911 01-11-2011 11:39 AM

Me toooooo! I should be quilting and here it is afew hours later on the Board and my neck is stiff, my shoulders feel like they are going to fall off, but I can't stop, lol. I am so addicted!

Roberta 01-11-2011 01:31 PM

I can relate. I have to finish my "Christmas present" for a friend in VA. before 2/1 because I go in for a hip replacment on 2/3 but I sit down for a few minutes to check the Board and hours go by.

Doreen 01-11-2011 02:04 PM

I am forcing myself to limit my time on the "board". I always want to know what is going on and then having to surf the websites. My DH wants to know "what's going on". I have shown him that's it's only the "board". Oh Well!

David, get a kitchen timer that has an obnoxious ring. Set it by your computer, no... set it out of reach, so you have to get up to shut if off. Have some yummy fabric sitting by the timer. Go.

dixiechunk 01-11-2011 04:26 PM

I think as time goes by I spend less time on the board. If a thread comes up that has already been done before, I skip it all together or just read the first few posts. If someone asks for help (which border fabric should I use...A, B, or C?), I post my preference but I don't read the other 5 or 6 pages. I rarely read the recipes (I don't cook) or the section with quilt shows and happenings. Sometimes I scan the for sale section but not regularly as the last thing I need are more fabrics or patterns.
In other words, I guess I edit my reading. On the other hand, I look at all the pictures. If I am having a night of insomnia with lots of time on my hands I may read items I skipped over previously.

purple_butterfly 01-11-2011 04:37 PM

Sorry, no help here either. Just before I opened this thread I said I should get some sewing done, but here I am still on the board...ok, I'm going to do some sewing now.....well, soon - after all it's only 11.40am here. I've got all afternoon yet

GagaSmith 01-11-2011 04:41 PM

I have only joined the board about three weeks ago and all the beautiful photos and helpful advice really inspired me to start quilting again after a lengthly absence. But now I am hooked on the board and am getting very little sewing done. I'M so confused!!!!!!!!!!!!

gramquilter2 01-11-2011 04:49 PM

What kind of silk quilt are you working on? Are you going to share your silk quilt. I have been working on a Sashiko quilt using Duponi silk. I think it has been added to my UFO list. LOL

I know what you mean. I went to breakfast with a friend, then on to Joann's and Tuesday Morning. Now back home and still haven't gotten to the basement to work on the silk quilt. I could have had it done by now if I wasn't on here. But then again, I would never have started the silk quilt if it hadn't been for the Quilting Board. So you just have to take a little bad to go with the good.

linhawk 01-11-2011 04:58 PM

I read awhile, then sew awhile, then clean awhile, repeat, repeat, repeat. Finally cook awhile. Back and forth all day it seems. But I do get some exercise. ;-)

desertrose 01-11-2011 05:12 PM

David,

I tried only reading the board while I had my morning coffee. The only thing that happened was I started drinking more coffee... Sorry, I feel your pain...WHO HAS COFFEE !!! I'm out...

Great Idea. I am going to try that.

I have to agree with everyone else. I spend too much time on the computer as that is what I start with each day. I'm thinking of changing my routine and reading the posts at night. I sure do learn a lot here, so I think the time is well spent. And inspiration--boy do we have a talented bunch.

Starting this week, I don't turn on my computer until afternoon. It's just too tempting to spend hours on here reading posts and looking at all the beautiful pictures. Thank goodness I'm not a very good sleeper so I can get online for hours during the night.

This place is death to your sewing time...

grammysharon 01-11-2011 10:19 PM

I stayed up until almost 11:30 pm on this board. I could have been machine quilting. I'll join your club

cowgirlquilter 01-11-2011 10:27 PM

No....cuz we are all wonderfully colorfully spectacularly disFUNctionally happy quilters....how bad can THAT be???? :-D :-D :-D :-D

Rettie V. Grama 01-11-2011 11:52 PM

Yes, we are all enablers, but to what end causes us to be? My main interest on the computer is the reading and exchange of constructive ideas, be it crocheting, sewing, quilting or spiritual uplifting. This is my AM project for everyday. Sometimes it lasts an hour or sometimes all morning, depends on what I find interesting or how my emotions are on any particular day. Then the afternoons are filled with cooking and crafts. Sometimes quilting, sometimes crocheting or something that makes me happy that day. I, for one, do not regret being an enabler for crafts, it is a part of the completion of a God given talent and very much worthwhile for our role in life.

rona thickpenny 01-12-2011 12:56 AM

lovly way to spend time with friends .

Glenda Kay 01-12-2011 08:20 AM

I try to limit my time on here to the time it takes to have my two cups of morning coffee. Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I find something that inspires me to immediately start a new project.

mommafank 01-12-2011 08:29 AM

Time time very well spent as I get lots of tips from you guys. Nice to read all the quips as well as it brightens my day.

Thea 01-12-2011 10:02 AM

I DON'T GET ANYTHING DONE BECAUSE I'M ADDICTED TO THIS SITE. MY HUSBAND ASKS WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO SEW?

2livesdown7togo 01-12-2011 06:50 PM

Hahahaha "My name is David and I'm a quilt-board-aholic"

I admit I can waste a lot of time here. But then I figure in the old days people used to travel a distance to get together and work on a single quilt for a few hours and talk, then travel a distance home to tend their chores. I figure the productivity might be much the same after factoring the travel time...

Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Oh, that IS funny! If that would really work, why would be calling our stashes "fabricology research centers"? Maybe the Salvation Army could help us. (or do we even want to be helped?)
