I would never use canned air/air compressors...people who own a particular long arm brand recommend them and I don't understand why.

Thank you so much for posting this. I just had a machine repair person tell me to use canned air on one of my machines. And . . . I was thinking about doing just that. You probably have saved me a costly repair bill down the road.

I use it on machines I have that I can see all the moving parts but my viking has to go to the dealer to get taken apart so I agree a totla no no BTW the blog picture looks like a viking machine... totally enclosed and only allowed to be taken apart by certified viking dealers...

I have only used canned air on my serger - is that a no-no too???

i was a dressmaker and had a boutique clothing business for many years and used canned air successfully. i had my machines serviced regularly and this has never happened to any machine i ever used. perhaps this is what happens to the electronic machines of today but my babylocks have never experienced this. interesting. that machine looks like a closed case machine.

I would think it would be a no no as well as you are not supposed to take them apart and the lint has to go somewhere and unless it is open on the bottom, I would chuck the can!

Thanks for this advice, I will never use can air. I would rather spend the money to get my machine cleaned professionally, than having to probably buy a new machine.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've been trying to tell other people this for years. What a mess!

That is really something to think about, I know someone who uses ir on their computer key board, what a mess.

It makes sense to use it on the keyboard though. You tilt the keyboard sideways and it blows junk OUT of the keyboard. But with a sewing machine, there is no way for it to get out, so it just blows the lint further in.
