Good for you, trying to make the cubes work out in your OBW... they are cool. I think the problem with the blue cubes is that the dark is too dark, and the light is too light. They stand out too much from the other values in your quilt. You can use a little less contrast and still get the 3-D effect you want. Could you try finding a lighter dark, and a darker light? Just the blues. The others seem to be working fine.

I have to agree with Kassaundra, this is much better and flows much nicer. It leads my eye around the whole quilt instead of just to the middle. I am loving your colors by the way.

I think the OBWs and the cubes go together just fine. One thing I would do is move all those "stairway" pieces one hexie closer to the center. I think they are all too close to the edge. The green one isn't too bad, but the other two are touching the edge. You'll get it right. Just keep looking at it for a while.

I like both the hexies and cubes together. For me it creates a balance and gives the eye something to see and something to rest on. Love your wonderful creation!

One block wonder

i like the idea of using only your purple blocks, and gradually change colors purple in bottom corner, up to green on one upper corner and blue the other corner, so the eye travels smoothly, transitioning from the dark purple to the blue and green. You could use the blue and green cubes floating in your backing possibly but that is like designing another quilt. Or possibly in a blue or green border if you’re adding one. I think using all 3color cubes is a bit much. Sometimes less is more. But just my opinion.

I like this one much better. Perhaps the blue blocks could be staggered up a bit more or add another block to have an odd number? They appear to be falling off the edge.

If you want to have the cubes in it, why don't you use them in a border around the quilt. Finish the OBW's, square it up, put a small border on it which will finish the inner quilt pattern and use the cubes in the second wider border. The problem with this beautiful quilt is that the blocks make it look awkward and thrown together like two different unfinished projects. Each beautiful but not complimentary to the other. Please try another approach and I think you will be much happier with your finished product. It is your quilt though and it is beautiful as it is but it could really be a show stopper if you reconsidered those blocks in the middle of it. IMHO

Very nice! I like this one so much better than the Y layout! I was not convinced that I liked the cubes mixed with those obws in the other layout but in this layout they look perfect! Love the gradation you have done as well.
