Which one?

Needed to make a quick quilt so after receiving suggestions from several here on QB, I made a quilt with a free Cobblestone pattern. I learned a bit about myself. I don’t like easy patterns~ I much prefer piecing. The colors are the ones the receiver wanted (not really my cup of tea so to speak). After I made it, it just didn’t resonant with me so I thought I would doctor it up a bit and made abstract flowers that will be blanket stitched onto the quilt. Which quilt does everyone prefer? Thanks

Very nice, I like #2

TheMerkleFamily 05-06-2018 07:12 AM

Those flowers sure make it come alive!

Maggie_Sue 05-06-2018 07:17 AM

Number two is my favorite!

Tartan 05-06-2018 07:50 AM

I like both but for me it would depend on how I want to machine quilt it. I might want the plain blocks to put some fancy quilting in.

Kelsie 05-06-2018 07:56 AM

To me there is no question, the second one, but is your person a very plain dresser, an unfussy person? Perhaps they will like the simple one better.

mea12 05-06-2018 08:04 AM

i like #2 also..livens up and makes it playful...the quilting of it will add yet another dimension..you will probably love it when finished!

Your flowers are so cute! And so are those stuffies. :) I can tell just by looking at the pictures which you like best. Hehe
Bigger, cuter, sweeter. :) Trust yourself with this one.

sewbizgirl 05-06-2018 08:14 AM

I prefer no flowers, but with some interesting quilting in the blocks. Have you asked the person the quilt is for? If they are not a frilly person they might not appreciate the flowers.

Nanny's dollface 05-06-2018 08:26 AM

The person who this is going to is in a nursing home and has mild to moderate dementia. I want her to have a nice quilt from me but realize that things go “missing” in nursing homes.

D.Henson 05-06-2018 08:32 AM

I sure do like those flowers. It really makes the quilt pop. However, I agree with others on what the recipient would like. If she is a child, definitely flowers.

edit: The flowers will certainly brighten up the nursing home. The quilting will perk up the first one and look very nice in her room. Either one will be totally appreciated. It will be such a beautiful gift!!

Beautiful quilt even if it's not your cup of tea! The flowers reall doll it up!

quiltsRfun 05-06-2018 08:35 AM

Another vote for #2. I might even make the flowers a bit bigger by adding a third layer of petals.

SHELTIE'SMAMA 05-06-2018 08:44 AM

Not a guarantee but incorporate her name/initials in the quilting and have the label sewn on before quilting so that it too is quilted down. Also make sure that you have a picture of it to show around if it goes on the missing list.

Irishrose2 05-06-2018 09:00 AM

Love the flowers - they will add a layer of tactile interest for your aunt as well as being visually appealing.

I agree with Sheltie'sMama's suggestions.
Actually I would go one step further and applique her name right on the front of the quilt.
Perhaps one of the corner blocks?
Perhaps there are some other significant things that could go in the other corners as well?
Date of birth? Marriage Date? Husband's name? Kids names? Grands?
With only mild/moderate dementia, these might be good reminders for her,
or give visitors things to discuss with her.

The flowers definitely make the quilt look more interesting.
Plus they make it look like you put more time, care, effort and love into making it.
Yes, as you can tell I am voting for the floral version! :)

Good thought .... you may want to make sure that they are well stitched in place, as sadly dementia patients often are "pickers" and could soon have the flowers picked right off!

jlt37869 05-06-2018 10:28 AM

They both look good, but your plushies seem to like #2 better!

PamelaOry 05-06-2018 10:44 AM

I vote for the flowers too

Boston1954 05-06-2018 10:47 AM

The flowers really make it jump up and say "pay attention to me".

The bears and the moose seem to like it as well.

Ditto! I agree with Christine.

Thumbelina 05-06-2018 11:28 AM

Definitely #2 love the flowers.

Jane Quilter 05-06-2018 11:40 AM

love the flowers on #2

Nanny's dollface 05-06-2018 12:01 PM

Great suggestions! Thank you so much everyone!

I prefer #2.

SillySusan 05-06-2018 05:22 PM

I agree with the suggestion to add her name ... on the front of the quilt in large script. Nursery homes are notorious for things to disappear. The flowers are a great addition. She's going to love it!

zozee 05-06-2018 05:44 PM

Second one,, no doubt about it! Love the daisies you added!

cathyvv 05-06-2018 08:11 PM

Easy choice for me - the flowers make the quilt!

junegerbracht 05-07-2018 04:48 AM

Love the addition of the flowers! Definately add recipients name in a prominant place on the quilt.

mrs theo 05-07-2018 05:24 AM

Definitely #2

jmoore 05-07-2018 05:41 AM

Another vote for the fun flowers...they would definitely make a nice addition.

Innov8R 05-07-2018 06:16 AM

#2 is a real winner.

Karen G 05-07-2018 07:09 AM

The little flowers really make a simple block pop.

I agree with everything Sheltie's Mama said. Things do go missing. Without her full name it will definitely disappear. Make it very visible on the quilt because the quilt is lovely!

lynnsv 05-08-2018 04:42 AM

love number 2!

momsbusy 05-08-2018 06:32 AM

It is so much more interesting with the flowers.

I think you are so right. I prefer the first one and I am a person who likes color but not a lot of accessories like necklaces. I think the first one will look "dressed up" after it is quilted. Some very nice quilting will make that little thing shine!

Mariposa 05-08-2018 11:10 AM

Both are nice, but the flowers add extra details. I agree with others to possibly add in her name or other such to help keep it from going missing. :)

cindyb 05-08-2018 11:31 AM

I'm looking at this a little differently. I love the flowers - and I do like the basic quilt. But, what if you arrange them in the center of the quilt, some short, some long and maybe some stems - or add a basket or mason jar look. Hmmmm This could really be cute.

ube quilting 05-08-2018 02:09 PM

The flowers make it very special and turns it into art.

nativetexan 05-08-2018 02:10 PM

I too like the flowers. I made my Sister a quilt and put her name in the border by machine. They sent her home during a hurricane and when she was allowed back to the rehab place, the quilt was gone. i told her they will have fun explaining her name on it. She hadn't even noticed. the thief hadn't either or they didn't care. I hope this quilt stays put!!
