Get the proper tools.
You won't know what those are when you begin learning. As you learn, get the tool.
Your worth it! Treat yourself.
Example: You don't have to use a ruler and pencil to mark blocks on the material and cut those boxes one by one with a pair of scissors. (I did that and was so frustrated I didn't want to touch material. I didn't yet know.) Get a self-healing cutting mat, rotary cutter and June Taylor 'shape cut'. Get good needles, good thread, good scissors, a ruler or shape cut.
There are toys you can do without until you can get them.
Then there are work horse tools you can't afford to do without. Your worth it!

When I'm tired I come here and dream. I have learned from 40 years of experience that if I'm tired I have no business sewing, cutting, ironing, or anything else permanent or dangerous!

Here is my tip:

Never demand perfection. Strive to do your best and with practice you will get better BUT first and foremost enjoy the process. Quilting should be fun.
