online fabric

ok as i live in a rural area and have fewer options on fabric pruchases ive always shopped online alot. so far its never been a problem, i mean i ve bought fabric that didnt match as well as i thought it would from the picture but it just goes into my stash if it wont do and i get something else. however i found some fabric online that i could have purchased about 30 miles away but it was cheaper to buy it online even with the shipping especially after you
consider gas prices and what if i got there and they didnt have any or enough of it, i wanted 3 yards. so i purchased
it and waited. well it arrived today, it was the right fabric but when i pulled it out of the the mailer it stunk sooo bad i started sneezing. it smelled so awful i didnt even want it in the house lol. i took it immediately to the garage and threw it in the washing machine and 3 washes later the smell wasnt gone but i think its usable now. ive never had a bad experience before so this was a huge shock for me it wasnt a smoke smell i cant describe it but i wont be ordering anything else from her again but i have to wait 7 days to leave feedback but you bet ill wait and let her know how it was.

Maybe instead of leaving feedback you could contact her and give her the opportunity to make it right. It just might be that she was not responsible for the odor and she could have sent you replacement fabric or issued you a refund.

The closest fabric store to my house closed last year. Now I have to drive quite a ways to get to one, so I end up ordering about 90% of my fabrics online, mostly from fabric.com and a few other smaller quilting stores. I have never had bad fabric or bad service doing it that way, and I know that if something turned up flawed or damaged that the stores I do buy online from would fix the problem for me.

You need to give them a chance to make it right. I have only had a problem once with fabric - did not get the entire order. I called them up and told them and they took my word for it and sent the rest of the order.

I did buy a blouse once that stunk. It had like a chemical smell too it. Wound up throwing it away. Even vinegar did not get rid of the smell.

Try rinsing the fabric with white distilled vinegar in the washing machine's rinse cycle and see if tthat helps! I have used vinegar to remove odors in the past. Good luck!

I don't understand why you wouldn't contact them and and make them aware of this issue? I'm sure they would want to know about the problem before you left them negative feedback. If they are a seller who is trying to make an honest living, I would think that they would make this right with you.

im sure she could smell it when she put it in the envelope how could you not ??? she obviously mailed it anyway and i did get 90 percent of it out with 3 washes with vinegar i just thought it was seriously unprofessional to mail it out that way. but if you think i need to notify her of something obvious i will send her an email. she has alot of fabric on her website id hate to think everything smelled like that it was truly an awful smell it smelled almost like it was soaked in perfume or something not the regular formaldahyde smell you smell in fabric stores.

I suppose it's possible it picked up the smell somewhere along the line...like if it was in a bin on the truck with something else with a really strong odor?

ok i sent her an email to let her know about the smell i guess well see how it goes. ill definately keep you informed. i thought it might have been the post office but the envelope wasnt damaged or stained but the fabric wasnt in plastic inside the way most of it is when i get it. it was just inside a cardboard envelope.

I know there are some ebay sellers that have negative feedback about smelly fabric. I always check the feedback before placing an order, but you never know. A book I bought came with a fabric softener sheet enclosed with it. The perfume was supposed to cover up the mildew odor, but it didn't work. I hope your fabric smell doesn't return.
