OK. I was out of diet coke so I went up to the local quickie mart to get some, and might as well fill up with gas as long as I'm there, and oh look - there's a girl selling girl scout cookies on the spot. While filling gas I'm listening to a book on tape and it's at a really good part so I decide to ride around a bit more to listen to the end of the chapter and my car just automatically drove to the LQS - well might as well stop in just to say hi and see what's new.

Look what 'fell' into my basket.

1 yard each of the three batiks in the upper left. The two in the upper right are 1 + yard "finish the bolt 15% off", four along the middle are 4 different fat quarters (2 of each fabric), and this is the first panel I've ever bought it my life but it was only 2/3 yard and it screamed "thread paint me!!" which I've always wanted to try so this is a perfect practice piece.

Not shown is a pattern for a jacket I bought that they had on display.

Forgive the lens cap :)

And yes, I bought some GS cookies too. 2 boxes of tagalongs that I won't share with my husband :)

Some great stuff fell into your basket! And the butterfly does scream thread painting. Have fun.

No, but if she had the "Thank you berry munch" I'd have bought two boxes of those too :)

asmmauer 02-13-2011 02:40 PM

Great fabric selection.

sharoney 02-13-2011 02:41 PM

Oooh, that butterfly is gorgeous! Be sure to post whatever you do with it.

ibequilting1 02-13-2011 02:43 PM

Hey,you can't just stop an audio book in a good part. That is exactly what I would have done. Great choices.

Neena 02-13-2011 02:44 PM

Great stuff!!! Sometimes we are just in the right place and the right time for things to "fall" on us! lol

CarolinePaj 02-13-2011 02:46 PM

The butterfly is the butterfly from the book a very hungry caterpillar. But pray tell... what is thread painting?

Hugs

That's some nice stuff that "just fell into your basket".

You know? It always amazes me how those fabrics have a conference JUST BEFORE we get in the store and brainstorm to see just HOW they can manage a plan whereby they end up being taken home. I see absolutely no fault on your part; it is the fabrics that are evil!!!!

DonnaJ 02-13-2011 02:56 PM

I'm so proud of you! I can relate!

campion 02-13-2011 02:57 PM

I had that panel of the butterfly---from the Very Hungry Caterpillar---lovely story, and it cost a lot over here

bgullett 02-13-2011 02:57 PM

Isn't it funny how that just happens!

michelehuston 02-13-2011 03:00 PM

I hate it when stuff just 'falls' into the basket..I don't understand how it happens!

moonwork42029 02-13-2011 03:27 PM

Hope you had the kids with to blame them lol

costumegirl 02-13-2011 03:33 PM

LOL!! Things like that 'just' happen!! :)

susie-susie-susie 02-13-2011 03:46 PM

Blame the car. If it hadn't turned into the shop's parking lot you wouldn't have had to go into the shop. The fabric is very pretty. Can't wait to see what you do with the butterfly.

trupeach1 02-13-2011 03:56 PM

don't you just hate that. you are walking along minding your own business and out of know where fabric jumps in your baskets and scares the crap out of you. You have no choice but to buy it in fear that if it did that to someone else they might have a heartattack.

quiltlonger 02-13-2011 03:58 PM

i love those books on tape I listen to them at night only wish they would stop same time i fall asleep Good haul I mean Fall at LQS

Yes, that's the same butterfly and the catepillar is on the other side of the WOF. I'll probably have to do him too, then it will be a matched set wall hanging I guess for a kids room.

Thread painting is the quilting portion, and you use the quilting to "paint" things with different color threads, thicknesses. It can be used to create the picture, or to embellish the picture.

lovingmama 02-13-2011 04:35 PM

Can you imagine how lonely the fabric would have been, so alone on the store shelf.

It really needed a home to go to.

xsquilter 02-13-2011 04:58 PM

You certainly got some beauties there!
I think it may be something in the air?!!! I needed a mouse for my laptop, so out I went, but geez whiz, the truck kept going for blocks & blocks....hmm, ended up at the fabric store! Gosh, I wasn't prepared for that! NOT!
This particular store has a sewing club thingy so members get an additional 25% reg priced fabric & notions. But wait...the sign said 40% off Feb 17-19th, sooooo, only a couple of little pieces fell into my arms!
Definitely will be there on the 17th!!!!!!

Did you remember to put gas in your car?

CarrieAnne 02-13-2011 05:02 PM

Beautiful fabrics!!!

butterflies5518 02-13-2011 05:09 PM

This must be sooo contagious! I refused to go anywhere today, then ran out of black ink for the printer, well just a few blocks to JoAnns from the office depot, then ran straight home so I wouldn't spend anymore!

Yes! and that's what started the whole thing. While waiting for the tank to fill I was really getting into the book. the book BTW is "The help". So far I'm liking it a whole lot.

azwendyg 02-13-2011 05:11 PM

Oh my! Those batiks are BEAUTIFUL! They would have "fallen" into my basket if I'd seen them sitting there all lonely in the LQS too.

pennijanine 02-13-2011 07:12 PM

My little grandaughter brought me my order of cookies today. A CASE of Somoas! I hope I don't eat all of them at once. OH! They are hiding in my closet! ;) ;) ;) I also seem to make all those stops at once, including the fabric shop!

Leezer 02-14-2011 02:41 AM

Great fabrics. I also have had that same problem of things just falling into the cart. I understand, you had no control over the situation.
Please post your butterfly when you are done. I have been thinking of thread art and thread painting too, anxious to see and hear about yours.

Ann L 02-14-2011 02:45 AM

Man, don't you just love it when they jump in your basket all by themselves? Mints are my favorites and I don't have to worry about sharing those, he doesn't like them, how un-American of him right?

emerald46 02-14-2011 03:51 AM

Sounds like a good trip to the store(s)...lol. I thought I recognized the caterpillar but I've never seen the panel.

janiesews 02-14-2011 05:08 AM

That is one of the best books out --- I'm a reader as opposed to listener and I mean to tell you, I enjoyed the book more than most I've read of late!!!

#1piecemaker 02-14-2011 05:45 AM

Things have a way of just finding their way home don't they? Love the butterfly fabric.

drdolly 02-14-2011 05:58 AM

Strange how a Coke and getting some gas makes us do silly things. Love the butterfly.

stichinluvr 02-14-2011 06:11 AM

Looks like really good stuff fell in.
