So, I was so excited, I finally got everything I needed to embroider on a wash cloth. I got everything hooped, picked a fairly simple design, and away we went. it turned out soo nice... until. I took the hoop off the machine, and turned it over. I forgot one step... to make sure the edges of the wash cloth were clear of the back! Chauk that one up to experience! I kept it with my embroidery stuff so I will never forget that step again!

scrappy happy 03-09-2011 07:39 AM

You will only make that mistake once!!

feline fanatic 03-09-2011 08:11 AM

I don't embroider but I can't tell you how many times I have done that with piecing! LOL

oldswimmer 03-09-2011 08:16 AM

I am sure I would have done the same thing...at least once!
Maybe even twice...so you are a head of the game!

CarrieAnne 03-09-2011 08:25 AM

Oops! I am learning too right now. So many little mistakes to make!!!!!!!!!!!!

sharoney 03-09-2011 08:26 AM

sueisallaboutquilts 03-09-2011 08:43 AM

Oh yes, I've done the same thing! lol

NanaCsews2 03-09-2011 08:54 AM

Yah gotta laugh at yourself! Been there done that! I have a little basket of mistakes I refer to every now and then. Course it is tucked away so no one else can see them.

PegD 03-09-2011 09:00 AM

I was embroidering a onesie, and relized in time, that I had the back in the hoop also. Would have been awful hard to get it on.

littlehud 03-09-2011 09:02 AM

I have never done it with embroidery but I have when FMQ on my machine. Sigh. It's so frustrating.

Airwick156 03-09-2011 09:34 AM

I don't embroider but I have been putting binding on a quilt and low and behold all of a sudden it felt like that binding was thicker then the rest and sure enough I turned it over and part of it had folded over without me knowing...now that was a pain in the butt, because it was on black fabric...with black thread. I got it ripped out though and that was the first date that Jack (ripper) and I ever had and since then weve had thousands of dates...wonder if he's ever going to marry me. LOLOL

PaperPrincess 03-09-2011 09:47 AM

I embroidered a shirt sleeve on to a shirt front. Caught it pretty early, spent some time with a ripper.

Jill 03-09-2011 10:05 AM

I usually just laugh about it and start a do-over. Like I always say about myself---why do it the easy way when you can do it the hard way?????????? LOL Seems like we've all done it.

buckyfan19 03-09-2011 10:39 AM

I am so happy that I am not alone! On the plus side, it helped me with the placement of the embroidery on the do-over!
I have never thought of naming my seam ripper... I think mine would be named "Oh, dang it" or "Crap"
Maybe if I had a name for it, I would be happy when I needed it.

pennyswings1 03-09-2011 04:36 PM

Oh boy, been there and done that. Also have done that when I was machine quilting on my sewing machine.

Tweety2911 03-10-2011 02:15 PM

Done it to an infants oncee and a childs t-shirt/

Homespun 03-10-2011 02:34 PM

If you sew or quilt, you will catch something and sew it down that doesn't need sewing down. Been there, done That!

majormom 03-10-2011 02:52 PM

Funny

majormom 03-10-2011 02:55 PM

Funny  I'm refering to PegD's almost boo-boo.
I think saving all the boo-boos to remember and refer to is a really good idea. Wish I had done this - except the pile of boo-boos would be overwhelming in my case

sandyo 03-10-2011 02:57 PM

sounds familiar

heberstitcher 03-10-2011 03:12 PM

ewwwwww been there done that!!!!!

Margie 03-10-2011 03:33 PM

The mistakes are the real teaching experiences...ones we are least likely to repeat.

granky 03-10-2011 03:34 PM

Whoever said you will only make that mistake once doesn't know ME!!!!

Bonnie P 03-10-2011 04:22 PM

I did that with a hand towel for a gift one time when I was first learning the ways of machine embroidery.
I was able take part of the folded over apart and use it for my self,LOL

Homemother 03-10-2011 04:36 PM

I've done that and while the embroidery machine is chugging along, a piece of the fabric would sometimes mysteriously creep over the embroidery area and become part of the design - plucked apart more designs than I want to admit.

quilter in the making 03-10-2011 05:01 PM

My first embroidery job on a hand towel was done sideways. Not such an impressive job. LOL

grugirl 03-10-2011 05:06 PM

As a teacher, my favorite saying has always been, "Mistakes Help Us Learn".

brendadawg 03-10-2011 05:15 PM

Been there, done that!!

sylvia77 03-10-2011 06:01 PM

You're not alone!

desertrose 03-10-2011 06:45 PM

I don't embroider but I've made similar mistakes sewing before. If we never made mistakes how would be improve our crafts.

GrannyHanaDa 03-10-2011 07:42 PM

A lesson to remember.

#1piecemaker 03-10-2011 08:46 PM

We've all made mistakes. Me? that's where I'm a millionaire!!

I don't embroidery but I can certainly relate in sewing. It seems I do it the hard way TOO much. You would think "better with age", but not me.
