I like it either way. But I'm more drawn to the second one.

I like your use of scraps and I like the one with the sashing, it makes the blocks show better. ( I thinks so anyway)

As always Don, you do fantastic work on your blocks & quilts. I do like the second picture better as it gives it a secondary block. Like having two blocks in one.

I prefer the no sashing pic and the secondary white block it creates.

I also like them both..but the top is more of a showcase for each block..as for a name these kind of blocks alway remind me of lanterns..of the Japanese style..so scrappy lantern ..comes to mind..
