Halo 05-04-2016 08:36 AM

I, like fivepaws, like it without any sashing as it makes a secondary block. No matter what you decide, it is going to be beautiful.

I like the blocks sewn together so that the arrow touches. But I also like the light gray sashing. I do not care much for the dark gray because it interrupts the flow of the light gray and the red arrows.

Beautiful blocks, by the way! Love your colors!

I like the light grey sashing. Your piecing is so well done!

I concur with Mimi Sews.

I love the look with the light grey sashings. I think it would be a nightmare to piece the blocks without sashings unless you have been very methodical when pressing to make sure your seams would nest properly.

Great block! I definitely prefer the light grey. It will be a lovely quilt.

quilterpurpledog 05-04-2016 05:44 PM

Any of the combinations in your pictures would make a great looking quilt. However, you asked for opinions and mine is to make the quilt without sashings and use the sashing fabric in the borders-it you use borders. Nice blocks.

i like the light sashing best

BETTY62 05-04-2016 08:39 PM

I like the gray sashing. It is a beautiful pattern.

2manyhobbies 05-05-2016 04:29 AM

I like it with the light gray sashing.

maviskw 05-05-2016 04:41 AM

I don't care for the first picture. The dark grey squares will form a large grey square with seams in. I like the sashing in the darker grey. The pattern of the square will still be visible after the sashing is on. And those Y seams can be done away with by putting one more seam in that half square on each corner. Good luck.

Second picture with the light grey, the dark grey is to dark.

I know that you will come up with the right decision. Love your colors.

jcoldicott 05-05-2016 05:30 AM

I agree with Bree123, if you need the sash for more length/width then the dk grey looks much better, the lt grey washes it out. otherwise, I'd do without. :)

silverfoxmag 05-05-2016 06:34 AM

The light gray flows, the dark gray breaks it up, depends on what look you are after, whichever will be beautiful!

Jingle 05-05-2016 06:36 AM

I like the darker sashing. It will be beautiful any way you do it.

grandma jo of 6 05-05-2016 09:08 AM

I favor the dark grey strips. Just my opinion. :o

maryrose67 05-05-2016 12:54 PM

I like the light gray with dark gray cornerstones idea, too. It's going to be a beautiful quilt when it's finished. I think your son is going to love it !

gramadona 05-05-2016 01:21 PM

Don, I really like the light grey sashing but would add dark grey cornerstones to finish off the Irish chain design. It's going to be fabulous!

I like it with the blocks sewn together -- makes a neat pattern where they meet up. If you are going to do sashing because you need the extra width/length, I'd definitely go with the darker grey to provide more contrast. With the medium grey, it just looks too washed out & some of the pattern gets lost.

I agree with Bree 123. I love the blocks without sashing strips but definitely go with the darker gray for the sashing.

carolynjo 05-07-2016 07:00 AM

Don, I like that you never back away from a challenge! I like the sashing. I would use a wall to check out more of the quilt to see how you like the final version.

himnherr 05-09-2016 02:35 AM

I like the dark sashing. Nice job btw.

sewbizgirl 05-10-2016 09:25 PM

Those blocks look great. The Y seams are worth the trouble. I like all 3 versions of your layout, so I'm no help. Just think on it a while.
