Opinion, please - quilting for placemats
2 Attachment(s)
I'm making some quick placemats for my mom. I've taken her on several trips to Maine and when I saw these charm squares they reminded me of our trips. I'm trying to figure out if I really need to do any quilting in the squares. I sort of want the fabrics to stand on their own in this case, plus I don't really want to do 6 thead breaks per placemat just in the squares. I'm using Stiff Stuff by Sew Lazy for the batting layer, so I don't think I probably need to quilt any closer. The squares are 4" finished. I've done 2 close rows of quilting in the sashing and 2 rows around the border. The red at the top is the binding fabric. Do you think I can get buy with the quilting that is there now?

Absolutely! I love the ways these came out - great job!

Pretty placemat! If the squares are 4 inches, I think the quilting you have done will be fine.
|
as you said, the fabrics stand on their own. i'd call the quilting done.

What did you use for the lining/batting?
They look good to me. |

I think you're ok with the quilting you have on the placemats. I think hand wiping spills on handmade placemats makes them look new longer than if you were to toss them in the washer and dryer.
Thanks for mentioning the Stiff Stuff (or stiffer dense interfacing) - I'll have to look into it for the placemats I want to make. Nan |
I am not familiar with the product you are using but with 4" squares, I think they are fine. You picked a REALLY CUTE FABRICS. She will just adore them.
