Need some help deciding on border fabric. Does the dark purple or the light purple look better?
I like the dark, personally. I often think, too, from a practical standpoint, that the border is where fingerprints and other soil accumulates, so I often take that into consideration in choosing my border.
I like the dark. It seems to "stop" the pattern well.
Ditto what she said.

i would use the dark!!!
I like the dark as well
I vote for the dark, and I think your color choices in the quilt are beautiful
I like the dark also I think it gives the main part of the quilt more deapth

I'm going to be the lone dissenter lol. I like the light purple because I think the fabric matches the quilt better. I would probably choose dark if it was one of the darks from in the quilt. Unless it's in the quilt and I'm just not seeing it. Very pretty!!

I like the dark better. Looks like a beautiful quilt!

I think dark. I love your quilt too. But the dark is the prettiest, in my opinion.
Go to the dark side. LOL
Definitely the dark. It frames it up very nicely. It sure is pretty. I love purple and yellow together.
I also like the dark. Looks good.
I go with everyone else. I like the dark purple also. To me the light puple just doesnt bring the colors of your quilt out.
Another vote for the dark here.

Typically I'm in favor of dark and lots of pattern and not a huge pastel person, but in this case I think the lavender is WAY better.
-- The lavender really goes well with the creams and is a nice transitory note between them and the darker purples in the quilt. It lets you white point and your black point be within the pieced pattern and puts the focus where it should be. -- The flower shape in the dark fabric draws the eye away from the piecing. It is more circular than your diamond design. Typically the similar round shapes would work well together, but eyes are more drawn to circles than rectangles so instead of being a subtle shape repeat the flowers are an equal draw for attention, even though your mind knows the big pieced diamond should be the star. This makes the border look eye catching, but also makes me miss the subtle details in the pieced fabrics. |
I, too, find the flowers in the dark border fabric distracting. I think they compete a little too much for attention with the interior of the quilt. I do think the darker border shows off the quilt colors to better advantage than the lighter border; it's the regimental flowers I have a problem with.

I like the dark, and it has a lighter Lavender in it, that helps to tie it all together!!
Dark also. It's a great looking quilt!
I like the dark
I like a darker border too but not the one you have in the photo. It is just too busy of a print. I would have preferred the darkest tonal in your quilt for the border.
I think the dark frames it better. JMHO
my self I would prefer the light one

I like the dark print. I think it really brings out the great colors you have in the quilt. Very pretty.
It's a beautiful quilt. I liked the lighter fabric better of the two choices. If the majority says the darker is better, I would look for another fabric. I don't feel like it is the best match.
I would go with the darker fabric but in a different print for the same reasons as others have given. You don't want to take anything away from your beautiful quilt.
I like the dark. In art class many moons ago, I learned that if we "darken the corners" it helps to bring the viewer into the painting. So I try to practice the same with quilts. This is just my own opinion and don't really know if it applies, but it's what I try to do.
I would like a dark versus the light, but not the dark you have in the photo - would go with something similar to the other fabrics in the body of the quilt. If I only had the 2 choices presented I would go with the light.
Dark here.
I also like the light purple better, but it's hard to tell because of the picture. If I could see the quilt better, it would be easier to say which is better.
A dark color would also be good, but a different one than the one you are showing. |
I would do a narrow band ( dark purple) around first, the size of your strips, then maybe the lite solid you have or some other choice.....that dark purple print is not good......get a tonal not a print......it distracts from the focal point!
Beautiful quilt, I am new yet, but I like the Dark also.
I like light fabric. It makes your center pattern area "pop".
Dark looks best to me.

Personally, I like the darker border as it frames the quilt so the quilt stands out. That's going to be a beautiful quilt.
Personally I like the dark better but I think the print detracts from the pattern of the quilt. The same depth of color with a fabric that reads more as a solid would be better. However, who says you need a border? The quilt police? How does the pattern look without a border? I mostly make quilts without borders now. Just my preference. N
