I like #3 because of the dragonflies too.
I agree with you. However, any of the three will be gorgeous.
They are all breathtakingly beautiful. I think 1 is my favorite but I would love any of them
I'm a strong #2 on this one.
I like # 1. It is striking with the dragonflies dancing in the center as a focus point and the snail trail blocks mimic the flight of the DF. Very nice and love that fabric. Post as you go with whatever you choose!

# 2 gets my vote!
Number three would be my choice.

Not so much with the 1/4" seam, I have the "add a quarter" ruler which I think is a requirement for paper piecing. However, because all the pieces were on an angle, I had problems with the fabric patch actually covering the area it was supposed to. The block was pieced in 4 PP sections. I did all the same ones of each section so once I figured out which way the patch was supposed to be positioned, I was able to immediately repeat it 5 more times.
BTW, I'm Nancy, but you're not the first person on the board to call me Marjorie. :) Don't know why... For others, I do have enough for border and back on the dragonfly so will probably do that in whichever one I pick. I did make changes noted earlier to option one. |
What a hard decision you have, I really love the drama of the first one and I like the second one as well, the third one looks a little to busy to me, I think the other two make the dragon flies more dramatic.
I really like the first one (errors fixed) The monkey wrench has more of a contemporary look than the other two-they seem more traditional. That lovely fabric just doesn't say 'traditional' to me. I hope you can incorporate a section of the fabric into borders or the back to showcase it's beauty and the source of your inspiration. Happy quilting!
It is too early in the morning-I should have called the block snail's trail rather than monkey wrench.
Option one is my favorite. It showcases the dragonflies, which is what you want. The snail trails add motion, which be the flight paths of the dragon flies. The fabric would be beautiful as a border, depending on the fabric used for piecing. If the quilt is to be used as the top bed cover, the center motif of dragon flies will be very striking!
Choices two and three are pretty too, but choice one is da best! |
I like #1. Beautiful fabric.

i like the 2nd one.
All look great. Look at the 2013-2014 Round Robin. Someone had a dragonfly quilt.
I love the movement of the first one, it echos the dragonfly shape/flight.
I think I like the first one.....but would fussy cut the dragon flies from original to put in the center and would also fussy cut one for each corner of border
I like 1 but would like to see more white in it to make the dragonflies pop
i love them all, but that first layout is *stunning*.
can't wait to see it! the fabric is to die for! aileen |
I think it would depend on the likes and age of the niece. All of them are beautiful. The younger ones in my house like #1 and the older go for 2 and 3. I like 3 but would make it a row longer to have a dragonfly block in the middle. I love the fabric and wish my oldest DGD hadn't seen it. Will have to try to find it. I start working on here graduation quilt next.

The first quilt is very unique, and your fabric is awesome. I also like the third quilt. Now that was no big help was it? Any of them would make beautiful quilts.
Oh, nuts! like them all. Do I have to choose?

Note though ... check the 1st layout as there is a mistake in it. The wrench block on the upper R inside border needs another arm, and the wrench below it has a twisted arm :) One last thing - I would play with this design a little more in EQ to see if a bit of white would make it sparkle. I think it needs a bit of white to contrast with all the dark purples. |
I'm a little late to this party but needed to comment. I love #1 but think I see the problem a bit differently. If you look at the to center and top right, the "overall" image is different than all the others. If you look at only the bottom half of the quilt, reproduce that and flip so it becomes the top, then it balances better. Not sure this is making any sense. Bottom line is, even though the fabric is beautiful and #1 may not showcase it as well, I believe #1 does a better job of showing a "dragonfly" design.
I think you're going to lose the beauty of that gorgeous dragonfly if you don't showcase it in the blocks! Too beautiful yo lose!
I like the first one! Beautiful fabric and beautiful layout
I like the second layout the most. It looks more dragonfly-ish. Beautiful fabric, is it going to be used in the border?
I like the second from the bottom,

I really like #1 as it reminds me of how a dragon fly flies- I think I would fussy cut the fabric for the on point squares as a whole square instead of piecing them. Beautiful fabric!

I'm partial to #1.
Another vote for #1!!!!
My fav is the first one! Good luck with your decision!
I like the first one - it draws you in and is striking - but they are all very pretty.
Wholly Cow I love that top focus fabric! My choices would be #1 or 3 - Beautiful fabric...
