Designed several quilts in EQ7 for my husband's niece in law. She wants purple dragonflies. I have this collection to use http://www.quilt-kits-online.com/pro...rod=FF-DQPU-FQ plus twilight garden dragonfly pictured below. Which lay out would you choose and would you change anything to improve the one you select? Thanks for your input!

I think I like the 3rd one the best.

I vote for #2

I like the contrast between the white and black and grey and purple.

Oh my, that is gorgeous Dragonfly fabric! I think I would have a hard time cutting it. I think I might choose #3 because you could fussy cut the dragonfly fabric for the center square in the block.

Prism99 12-22-2013 06:57 PM

I guess I'm different; I much prefer the first layout. :)

Billi 12-22-2013 07:07 PM

All very pretty quilts and really creative tops. However your dragonfly fabric is amazing. To me all of those patterns are so busy they detract from your beautiful fabric instead of showcasing it.

But between the 3 to me the second one would showcase it best.

I vote for # 2~~~ :) Pretty fabric!

I like the first layout ... but think the cornerstones in the second layout would look pretty cool with it.

Note though ... check the 1st layout as there is a mistake in it. The wrench block on the upper R inside border needs another arm, and the wrench below it has a twisted arm :)

Hanks Nancy. I did make these for practice and may use them for my dragonfly blocks. Would ask texture and dimension but am a little worried about bulk. Thanks for your suggestion.

I heartily agree with this suggestion, for the same reasons.

I really like #1 as it reminds me of how a dragon fly flies- I think I would fussy cut the fabric for the on point squares as a whole square instead of piecing them. Beautiful fabric!

Rodney 12-22-2013 09:05 PM

I like #2 the best. I would use the dragonfy fabric for the back. I think cutting it up would detract from the effect and other dragonflies would possibly clash with the ones you make.

We are all so different, but I LOVE #1. :-)

patsynel 12-22-2013 09:17 PM

Love the fabric and color. I like #2.

Dolphyngyrl 12-22-2013 09:42 PM

number 2 for me

quiltsRfun 12-22-2013 10:46 PM

I like the first layout.

katigirl 12-22-2013 11:36 PM

I really like the first one best.

I like the 3rd one so you can show of your lovely fabric. But would not use any myself as I would find another pattern to show of the fabric you have is gorgeous. :)

ILoveToQuilt 12-23-2013 03:36 AM

#1 for me!

my first choice would be number 3

QuiltnNan 12-23-2013 04:26 AM

i like the first one... the second has too much white for my taste, and i like the quilt to be symetrical, so #3 is out. jmho

I love the first one, it's so fluid, I love the movement of it!! I know it's not, but the 3rd one seems off kilter to me, because of the block at the bottom, in the middle. Love that fabric!!

PaperPrincess 12-23-2013 06:00 AM

I like #3. Do you have enough of the dragonfly fabric for the border? That's where I would use it for any of those layouts. Also, I made that dragonfly pieced block. The only way I could get it to come out was to paper piece it. I saw it in the book "Dancing Dragonfly quilts":

I like #2 best

My choice is #1, it is the most interesting pattern to me.

I love, love, love the purple dragonfly fabric. I have it in another color but have never seen the purple.

Thanks Marjorie - I have this book and did use it to reference the dragonfly block. Did you have any problems with quarter inch when you paper pieced it?

Quiltkitsonline.com has this fabric in two color waves.

The fabric is beautiful!! All of the lay outs are beautiful but #1 is my favorite.

Not so much with the 1/4" seam, I have the "add a quarter" ruler which I think is a requirement for paper piecing. However, because all the pieces were on an angle, I had problems with the fabric patch actually covering the area it was supposed to. The block was pieced in 4 PP sections. I did all the same ones of each section so once I figured out which way the patch was supposed to be positioned, I was able to immediately repeat it 5 more times.

BTW, I'm Nancy, but you're not the first person on the board to call me Marjorie. :) Don't know why...

joy tippit 12-23-2013 11:51 AM

I like number two
