Your "6-point" Star colors are great! Keep trying!

The Lone Star is not so easy. The strips are actually cut at a 45 degree angle.

I had initially brought the pattern from a LQS and could not understand them at all. Yes I knew I was getting a little ahead of myself by buying the pattern and all the material for a California King Quilt 5 years ago. I just knew I had to have it! Well I sat on it until this year.

I found in a Clothide Catalog (& it is on their website) a Lone Star Wall Hanging Kit. It comes with the fabric for the top, backing, binding and includes the batting as well. Well to make a long story short, the pattern was very easy to understand and the cost for the kit was a very reasonable price. I pieced it and quilted it in 1 weekend. The directions are for an advanced beginner who wants to try something difference. I suggest that you buy the kit and try it! It is really worth it.
