Hi all,

I really enjoy the feel of cloth. My LQS is my place of calm. However, I was browsing through ebay and the prices seem really good. Interesting cloth selection. Have you ever ordered material from ebay? Was it good quality? Were you happy with the process?

As usual, I remain

CLUELESS

I often buy off ebay. I have found excellent fabric from the sellers. Read the descriptions and check the feedback carefully. I usually buy fabric that I am familiar with.

erstan947 09-18-2010 02:18 PM

I have been happy with what I bought. Price was good too. But, Anything I buy on e-bay I expect it to not be what I expected so I don't get upset. It's like buying a surprise package. There are some board members that have e-bay stores that they like. Maybe they will respond with those links.

I've ordered from eBay. To me, nothing feels better than good quality fabric from a fabric store. I buy fabric from Joann's and from Walmart. I use it and it works fine. But, it doesn't compare to fabric store fabric. Of course, the Joann's and Walmart fabric doesn't cost $9.00 a yard, either. So, I guess you get what you pay for.

I have almost always been happy with my purchases on Ebay. I do, however, look at the feedback for the seller and read descriptions very carefully. I also look the the manufactuer's name or ask if it isn't shown in the description. I only recall once that I was very unhappy. The fabric was cute and I really didn't care about the manufacturer in that instance. When I received the fabric it had a definite odor--like it had been dipped in scented Febrize or something. I really can't handle perfumes at all. Thought I could wash it out but couldn't. Ended up throwing it away. If it is an estate sale item ask about odors! Also, pay with PayPal. You will get your money back if the item doesn't arrive. Hope this helps!

SharonAnne 09-18-2010 02:51 PM

I have always been pleased with my eBay purchases. Quick delivery, no damage, exactly as described, quality. But I agree with kittenquilts - make sure you read the feedback for the seller.

MaryStoaks 09-18-2010 02:56 PM

I've bought from ebay sellers quite a bit. The fabric I got was wonderful and arrived quickly. I do have a couple of favorite sellers but there are so many to choose from. I usually put what I'm looking for in the search area and then arrange the listings by price to get a good buy.

Sadiemae 09-18-2010 03:44 PM

I have been happy with fabric purchases, but I won't buy cut squares that are not name brands because some of the fabrics are paper thin.

I agree. Look at the seller's feedback. I have bought some beautiful fabric from eBay too.

dphelps 09-18-2010 04:24 PM

I have always been happy with my EBAY purchases and I have bought quite a bit. Usually the top sellers are considered the best. I always check the feedback on the seller first and read desciptions carefully. I don't buy from sellers who do not combine shipping. I always figure the total amount I will pay (including shipping) to decide whether it is too much to buy on line or shop locally.

I love ordering fromn E bay! They make the ratings very important. Everyone who sells are working hard to keep their ratings up so you usually get excellent service! I have ordered things I could not even find anyplace else!

SherriB 09-18-2010 04:41 PM

I have ordered from Ebay lots of times also. I have bought lots of Moda charm packs. I have bought yardage and been very pleased with it. Most of the time I buy fabric from a known manufacturer, like Moda, Timeless Treasures, etc. I just bought a pack of 6 inch squares of snack food fabrics. They were cut evenly and a great assortment of nice feeling fabrics.

justwannaquilt 09-18-2010 04:45 PM

I have bought farbic from both Ebay and Etsy. I love both. I can get the same fabric for a fraction of the cost. Etsy prices are a little higher (sometimes) then ebay and it is more like a "buy it now" set price than an auction.

Born2Sew 09-18-2010 05:47 PM

Hate to admit this, but most of my shopping is done through EBay. I so seldom get out by myself to shop, and hubby doesn't care for fabric shopping. On rare occasions I get out with one of my girls, then I'll get to stop at a fabric shop.

Mostly I have been very pleased, prices are good, even with shipping it's usually cheaper than buying gas for the car.
Check their feedback and read their description carefully. If your instinct tells you to run, do so.

Bev 09-18-2010 06:36 PM

I have bought a lot of fabric from ebay sellers in the past. I don't go to ebay very much anymore. What I found was that it was a little chancey. Sometimes, in fact many times, the fabric was great, as long as I had checked it out carefully. But if I got careless, I sometimes ended up with cheap or shoddy goods. That's true of anything you buy on ebay. Ask about it! determine if it's LQS quality or something less. You should not bid way high on anything that is less than the best. And don't forget, there is always that darn S&H charge. 8-)

Cathy M 09-18-2010 06:48 PM

I've shopped a lot on Ebay for fabric and other items. Check the feedback, the description of the item and make sure you check the location of the seller. Most people on Ebay are very honest and just trying to make a buck like the rest of us in life. If they sell you something you're unhappy with, quietly contact them and let them know. It's very sad to see new people to Ebay buy one thing and then go off the deep end over their purchase. HAVE FUN SHOPPING :):) You can shop in you jammies..... what could be funner that?

twinstitchin 09-18-2010 07:45 PM

I have bought from e-bay for the past 12 years, mostly fabrics and quilt related products, always been more than satisfied.

brenda21 09-18-2010 07:49 PM

I have bought and sold many things on Ebay....last week for the first time, I bought fabric....two beautiful jelly rolls of 30's reproduction fabric for 10.00 each and free shipping...they just arrived yesterday and they are excellent...also bought precut batik 2 inch squares and was happy with them...as everyone else has said, check the feedback rating.

Very good advice :D
I have had great experiences shopping on ebay :D:D:D

purplemem 09-18-2010 11:38 PM

I have bought over 500 items on ebay. I love the convenience and the feeling of helping a small business owner. I've only had one item not delivered, must have been lost in the mail. I buy Moda charm packs often at very discounted prices, as well as batik charms. Reading the seller's rating and feedback is very important.

Joan Rosemary 09-19-2010 02:03 AM

Hi clueless, I have just bought my first fabric from ebay and am apsolutely satisfied if not thrilled with the end result. see my post " Laura Ashley fabric has arrived.

katier825 09-19-2010 04:13 AM

I've bought fabric several times thru eBay and been very pleased with it. But you really need to check the prices. Some are as high as the LQS, and you pay shipping on top of that. I do better with some of the online shops. Many have everyday low prices, not just sales.

BonniFeltz 09-19-2010 06:04 AM

I buy through Ebay a lot. I only buy from people who post pictures so I get an idea of what I am buying and also they have to have a good feedback rating. Make sure that you either get enough fabric to finish your project or it is fabric that you can get locally if need be, etc.

happyhooker 09-20-2010 03:49 AM

I often order from e-bay. Have always gotten good fabric, just how it was discribed. We don't have many close fabric shops, so this is the easiest for me.

Roxanne 09-20-2010 04:31 AM

If there is enough time left on the auction, I'll ask the seller for the name of the manufacturer (if they don't give it in their listing)

That way I can buy what I know is quality fabric. I have purchased before without knowing and although the fabric I got was "nice", it was disappointing for the end price paid.

I'm like most here, I like the feel of good quality fabrics.

BTW--I love your avatar!

I have purchased from Ebay and have always been very satisfied. I have always wanted to try selling, but haven't attempted it yet. Any suggestions on that end?

19angel52 09-20-2010 05:33 AM

Have made quite a few purchases from eBay...and have never been disappointed. I usually concentrate on charm squares....and have gotten the greatest deals ever! Do check out the sellers' feedback....a few negatives or neutrals may pop up - don't let that scare you. People sometimes get their knickers in a twist and post neg feedback for the stupidest of reasons.... Jump in and start small....like charm squares or larger squares....they make wonderful quilts!

SHELLEYJACOBSON 09-20-2010 05:36 AM

i was at Joann's one day and a woman was buying a cart load of fabric. Not just a few yards but whatever was on the bolt.
I asked her what she was making with all that fabric and she said she had an eBay store. I was frankly a bit shocked. To think that she is selling the clearance Joann's fabric kind of upset me. You know she is going to sell if for more than she bought it for and charge shipping. So, be careful....

MaryAnna 09-20-2010 05:52 AM

Yes, I do buy from ebay fabric sellers, I've always been pleased with the fabric. Just check out the sellers feedback before placing a bid to purchase.
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna
PS. Your baby in your avatar is just adorable! I love pugs!

sandpat 09-20-2010 05:55 AM

Shelley...of course she is! Thats the whole point!! If she wasn't going to make money then why bother? Its a lot of trouble to sell on ebay or etsy. You have to find the product, you have to photograph it, you have to find/buy packaging, you have to list the item, you have to monitor the listing and make sure you reply promptly to email questions, you have to then email the winner of the auction, package the goods, take them to the PO...and for all that you might make a couple fo $, oh and then wait forever hoping that the buyer will leave positive feedback. So...good for the lady for finding a source for fabric that she can make a couple of bucks on.

I've had good luck both buying and selling on ebay...its one of my favorite sites..do check the description carefully and don't buy from someone if you don't feel comfortable with any of their feedback

hobo2000 09-20-2010 06:07 AM

I always buy charm packs and Jinny Beyers and Kaffe Fassett
FQ's. Never been unhappy.

PJO 09-20-2010 06:13 AM

I buy material off from E-bay and have been very pleased with the quality and price.

Daisydoodle 09-20-2010 06:16 AM

Yes, buy fabric and notions all the time from eBay and have done alot of repeat business. The fabric has been great and the prices even better.

ragamuffin corner 09-20-2010 06:34 AM

I order from material from ebay all the time. It is beautiful and you can hit some sales. Go to fabric.com after spending 35.00 ( which is not hard to do)shipping is free and fast. Be careful it is addictive.

I buy a lot of fabric and notions on Ebay and only once in the past 4 years has a package not arrived. Fabric is so expensive here in Canada and the notions are crazy too. I was at a local shop last week and 1 Olfa blade was $17.99. On Ebay I bought a package of 5 blades for $14.99 plus $4 shipping so for a little more than the cost of 1 blade here I got 5. That is why I like Ebay and I always get good quality fabrics because I watch what I buy and who I buy from. Always check the feedback and how they respond to your questions.

My Cat's Belle 09-20-2010 07:06 AM

I've ordered quite a bit from ebay and have had no bad experiences. I seem to find some sellers I see often that I like their fabric, then will go to their store to see more. They depend on positive feedback, so I would let them know if you are not satisfied.
