I haven't been quilting for very long, so I don't have that many scraps yet. But the way I'm doing it right now is to take all the scraps I have left from a particular quilt when I've got it completely finished and make blocks from them until I have nothing left. Right now, I'm using my scraps to make Dear Jane blocks, since they're the perfect size for whatever scraps I have. Eventually, all these blocks will make up a new top.
It really is a great way to use up scraps and you can use any kind of block pattern you want, although small blocks are good because you can use up small scraps.
