As others have said, the lightbulbs only fit OTT fixtures.
The OTT Lights themselves are worth 10 times what I pay for them in terms of SAVING MY EYES from strain and premature aging, matching colors, etc. I can do 8+ hours per day hand sewing or embroidery with an OTT light and never feel it. Also, they're terrific for reading (studying) and an absolute godsend for small-scale intricate work like beading or petit point embroidery. I bought a flip-up Task light for my Mom for her 75th birthday a decade ago and she is STILL raving about how huge a difference it makes in her hand-sewing and crafts work. By her recommendation alone, over 20 of her friends in her various craft and social groups have bought OTT lights. (No, I don't work for them!!!) |
Actually, the last time I went to JoAnns, they had a new OttLite bulb. It is an actual lightbulb that replaces a 100 watt bulb. It looks like the CFLs that are already on the market, but have a more true light (less yellow cast). I bought one and it's great. They are not as cheap as the regular CFLs, but for sewing or craft room where you want true color, it's so much better. I will probably be buying a few more next time the OttLites are on sale there or I will look elsewhere like eBay.
I just looked on the JoAnn's website and they have different wattages for these CFL style bulbs (http://www.joann.com/joann/search/se...questid=392615). However, as other people stated, all the tube like OttLite bulbs will only fit OttLite type lamps. |
I have an Regular lamp that uses an Ott Lite bulb that screws in like a regular bulb, I use it for reading. I also have a Ott Floor lamp that will only use a plug in type bulb the bulb for it is $30, the ott lite bulb for a regular lamp is about $11.
I bought my ott lite light bulb for my regular lamp at JoAnns. They are sometimes hard to find but you can get them online. This is a web site, that might help. http://www.google.com/products/catal...7XT5g&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&wrapid=tljp130132599345306&um=1&ie= UTF-8&cid=14661128631370072352&sa=X&ei=r6iQTcivHYq-sAOWmOieAg&sqi=2&ved=0CF8Q8gIwBA#

I bought the spiral light bulb one and use it in a clamp on desk lamp. Works just fine. $14.00 was a lot better than even the $35.00 one on sale.
|
Thanks you for the info I will most definitely check it out. I have a great lamp by my machine I just need the bulb. Didn't want to by another lamp.
|
Out west, we have what is called Fred Meyers-a one stop shopping store. I bought a floor lamp and a desk lamp that look like Otto lights. They were at least half the price. And I buy their brand of light bulbs for them at a fraction of the cost. Sorry, it has been a while since I bought one so I don't remember the brand. But, the bulb looks just the same and costs about $8-12. I use mine every night and it has been quite a while since I have replaced it. :-D

check for sales.......they are always going on sale! For my money-(own 3) they are WORTH THE PRICE!

Oh well, we do things like that for our children. I sure wouldn't want her to go blind because I took my lamp back..LOL

check out Michaels also - when they have their coupons you can get a pretty good sale - can't live without mine - love it!

I have an Ott-lite floor lamp that I just love. Haven't had to change the bulb yet.
|
I buy the ott light bulbs with a regular bulb base and they work great in my floor light that I picked up that some one set out by our dumpster. Nothing wrong with the lamp just needed a new bulb so I decided to try the ott light bulb. IT IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Oh my, I sure do need one of these. Do the Ott Lights give off heat like a regular incandescent bulb?

I have a floor model that I use to read by in my favorite chair
and my sister gave me a table top that I use with my sewing machines & serger. I like them because it provides bright light that doesn't blind you in you look directly into it. They are very expensive but I got mine 60% off and my sister got the desk model 50% off...still pricey. |

I bought OTT lighbulbs at Lowe's and just put the bulb in an old floor lamp I had. Works fine. Less than $10

OTT lite is in the process of changing their light fixtures and bulbs...if you have an older model, you might want to stock up soon...
also you can find "daylight/full spectrum" bulbs in office stores as well.. |
Love mine so far. I bought it from Joann's a few months ago.
Since I've been unable to sew due to two knee replacements in the last year and a half with complications. So I've been using it as a reading light. Might have to get another one when I get back to sewing which will be real soon hopefully. Hugs, Sharon |
My children bought me the floor Ott light as a birthday present and I use it constantly when sewing. Love it!!!!
|
I have two, One I love the other I don't care for. I got it at Joann's, the first I got in Canada. The problem with the one from Joann's: it is topheavy and the base is not heavy, or large enough to keep it upright when sitting in my easy chair, which is where I like to do my hand sewing. I have to keep a magazine basket on it to help keep its head up. It does have the advantage of clamping onto a table tho. These are both floor models.

I have 4 ott lights. Two downstairs for hand-sewing reading, etc. and two upstairs in my quilting room. These eyes couldn't survive without them!

I am told that the ones from quilt stores are brighter but I don't see much difference between my two lights. Yes, they are worth the money, but you can always use your coupons at Joann's. I did......and saved !!!! |
I just bought one at Big Lots ($29.99)and I love it!! My eyesight is so bad even with progressive lens in my glasses that around dusk my vision starts to dim. The light is wonderful. I can't use the flourescent bulbs...they put out a flickering that gives me migraines. Next time I'm in Big Lots, I'm going to pick up another one. I got the last one on my last visit!
|
Love my Ott! I think they now make bulbs that are retrofitted for other lamps. I also like the pale blue colored bulbs they sell everywhere - -Walmart, Lowe's, etc. They mimic sunlight.
|
Thanks for the info about this light. I will get me and my hubby one. it will help him with his fly tying.

Have never investigated the Ott lights, as they look really expensive. Sounds like they may be worth it, though. |
The Ott floorlamps are well worth the money and so are the natural light bulbs, they have helped get us through this long winter with a lot of quilting.
