Well when I got my gas card bill they had some kind of
'true light" lite so I ordered and JoAnns had a 1/2 off sale this past weekend so I ordered an Ott-Lite. They're both floor lamps but haven't gotten either yet. My quilting frame is in the living room so I need one there and in my sewing room I only have the overhead light. I'll let yall know which one I like best.

I have just retired and my Board of Directors gave me an Ott Lite as a retirement gift. I love it! It makes hand sewing especially in the evening much easier to see than just normal light. It is fairly light weight too, so I can move it from the livingroom to the sewing machine with no trouble. I think it is well worth the money. Good luck Marylou

they now sell the ott-light bulbs at one of the home stores -- home depot, i think. haven't tried one yet, but will as soon as the post-holiday fabric purchases are paid off!

I was wondering if you could use their bulbs in another lamp. I guess it would have to be one that takes that type bulb. I just put a new lite in my aquarium that says it brings out the color of the fish. I'm gonna compare it against these high dollar lamps I've ordered, might can use them for replacement bulbs.

they make the ott-lite bulbs for specialty bases as well as regular screw-in sockets or florescents.

I've been reading about the Ott lights and was told that if the lighting is the only feature you are after, than just buy a special bulb and put it in your own lamp. I bought one of those GE spiral type bulbs which is a daylight 60 using only 13 watts and put it in a bridge arm lamp and it seems to work great. I use it for cross stitching. It says it is an 8000 hour long life. Anyone else tried this?

I have those in my ceiling fan and they're okay for general lighting but if I actually need to see something very well they don't cut it

Are there different kinds of Ott bulbs - like true color and full spectrum?
Any suggestions which one would be ok for cross stitching? I'm happy to
hear that Home Depot is selling them. I thought that the Ott bulbs had a special base just to fit their lamps, but that is great if they will fit a standard lightbulb socket.

sorry, i didn't notice if the bulbs were different. i was there this wkend and happened to notice them. i will say they're not cheap (about $15), but a whole lot cheaper than buying the lamp! as for the type to buy, i can't say for sure. i remember (WAY back when) we had a true color light box at college. at the time they cost a small fortune, but the difference was astounding! things that seemed the same in normal light were totally different under that lamp! it was pretty cool back then. now, i guess it's common knowledge that lighting can change the appearance of color. well, good luck!
