What a great tip! When I use the 1/4" AcuFeed foot on my Janome 7700, I have to move the needle far to the right and can't use the straight stitch feature of the APC stitch plate. I am definitely going to try this with the next quilt! I always have painters' tape around since it's what I use to hold my oven liner down for FMQ.

I use the leaders & enders and it seems by the time you sew across them you can use as much thread as not using them. I like this tape idea. Will try today.

What kind of oven liner do you use for fmq? Is it like the one promoted that is super slick-I can't remember the name of it right now.

I think it's just store brand; I bought it at Walmart years ago for about $10-15 to try before shelling out for a Supreme Slider (I believe that's the slick FMQ sheet you're thinking of). Pretty sure I read about it here on QB.

It's black and stiffer than the Supreme Slider so you need to tape it down to keep it from moving. The painters' tape doesn't last past a few bobbin changes (when you peel it up it picks up lint from the fabric and starts curling up instead of sticking), but the liner works well enough that I haven't felt the need for the SS and the tape change is just a minor inconvenience.

The black ones sold at Walmart were oven liners. I use mine for a pressing sheet. The Super Slider is much better for fmq then the oven liner. It's very slippery and stays in place without tape. I rinse mine off under running water to be sure there is no dust to keep it from sticking to the bed of the machine. I haven't used it on any surface but the extension table so don't know if it will work on a table top.

Thanks so much for the tip, Tartan. I use leaders/enders and it uses up thread. I have a small hole punch and I think I might try that to make the hole for the needle (but that might require more placement precision than I can manage!)
