I did a New York Beauty as part of a Craftsy paper piecing class when I was just starting out. I didn't know at the time how difficult that design was supposed to be. Turned out great, and was really easy - although it certainly wasn't nearly as intricate as the gorgeous pattern in this post or any of Judy Niemeyer's designs.

I saw Elaine (hmm unusal last name that escapes me right now) do a New York Beauty and other variations with a technique she calls "Applicurves". It combines paper piecing and appliqué to make NY Beauty blocks. The book with DVD is on Amazon. I'm going to try it. The pattern above is way beyond my current skill level- hopefully some day. Can't wait to see your finished quilt Basketman! You are brave!

Thanks for the suggestion...bought the book today and almost for the price of postage. I find paper piecing the most challenging, especially if you are even the slightest bit dyslexic...but the results can be amazing.
