I made the Paperdoll Quilt for my granddaughter Grace.
In attaching the dolls I used applique. I first made an oval out of cardstock. I cut the dolls out allowing for the seam allowance. I used the "heat bond" on the wrong side of the doll fabric and basted the doll fabric around the cardstock pressed the edges. I then removed the cardstock, pressed the doll to my quilt block. I use a zig zag stitch 1.5 to tack down the dolls to the quilt block. I don't like raw edge applique as well. The little quilt itself is from a magazine pattern I found which is supposed to look like a curio cabinet. After putting a hanging sleeve on the back, I thought my granddaughter could hang the quilt down low on the wall so she could play with the paper dolls. The clothing has been cut out after pressing "heat bond" and attached to a stiff felt. I sent her a box of "glue dots" to hold the dresses onto the dolls. I also made a tote with 4 dolls in the same manner. It has pockets inside and zips. I thought she could take this along in the car. I love your wall hanging and bag.
Since I have three young granddaughters, here's the books I made for them. I also made pillow cases for each of the girls for Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day and just happened to be in the same photo. They can all play at the same time. |
aww that is so precious!

Newby0709 - How adorable. I bet they loved the books to play with. Did you make the dresses stiff?
I think I saw the books in the Keepsake Quilting catalog but it was after I made the tote. Great idea for the girls. |
Adorable!!

So very cute, I bet they love them.

those are so sweet! wish my granddaughter was interested in playing with dolls, but she would rather play soccer, football or baseball. LOL
|
I love it. Wouldn't this be cute in a day care or pre-school room. :-D

All the projects are so cute...the quilt, tote, books and pillowcases. Like them all.

She will love it!

I love it. I just picked up a panel of the Dolly Dingle and the dresses but didn't have a clue how to make the dresses stick. I saw the quilt made at a quilt show and she just stuck the dresses on. She had used something in a bottle and I forgot what it was called but I will research it.

Oh, beautiful!
I've wanted this fabric since it came out, but with all these dang boys, I've not bought it yet. I'm going to have to break down and buy it for me, LOL. I LOVED paper dolls as a kid, I'd spend hours making them elaborate houses from cardboard boxes and "furniture" I cut from the Sears catalog. We were so poor as a kid, I never had a real dollhouse, so I really loved my paper dolls. |
Violetsfarm, I like how you showcased the paper dolls in your quilt. I have some of this material for a quilt and haven't decided how I would make the quilt. Thanks for sharing. Eiltcoq.
