Patched & Quilted Christmas Gift Ideas
I usually try to start my handmade Christmas gifts around August, so now's the time to start thinking of ideas. Whole quilts are out this year. I just don't have the energy, or time. Small projects are OK though. What are some of your ideas? Here are a couple of mine:
Reusable grocery bags - Cute motifs appliqued on them such as veggies, grains, beverages, etc Bulk Bags - Light-weight, reusable bags to use in the bulk section instead of the usual, plastic bags. Paint or applique the tare weight on them. Could be cute! Mug Rugs - 'Nuff said. Aprons - For kitchen, or garden with quilt, or applique trim. Hummm....that's about it, so far. I'd better get another cuppa coffee. :D ~C |
placemats (although some people don't use them) and kitchen towels with fabric on top (so you can hang them), pillowcases, tablerunners. I need more coffee too!

What about tree skirts? Hmm. on second thought that might be more than a "small" project. I guess it would depend on the pattern...

I made a bunch of these key chain thingies last year. I use one & love it because I can put my wrist thru it & still use it while carrying things. Easy to make. The hardware is available on amazon.
I personalized them by color & sayings. Good Luck! Donna Mc |
I've made these casserole/pie carriers for my nieces, and they were a big hit. I used metal D-rings in place of the two corner loops. (Not affiliated in any way with the video maker.)

I've made pillowcases, cosmetic bags and tissue holders in the past. This year I'm thinking of making iPad/iPhone stands (sort of like a triangular pillow) for my cousin and her kids. I don't know what I'm making for anyone else yet.

I was thinking the other day about this while making the sets of pot holders for my sister's in law. (One is a double sided oven mit and the other is for the stove.) I plan on filling the pocket on the big one with homemade cookies in plastic and a card.
I was thinking how nice it would be to buy a nice sized basket or wooden bowl and make seasonal cloths to keep buns warm. I also thought maybe of making a Pad to fit the base that could be microwaved to keep the buns warmer. Kind of like those neck warmers. Know what I mean? I haven't worked out the details yet, but, I think it would make a nice gift if you did it right. |
I think I'm going to make these:
Roll-Up Glove Box Essentials Caddy I've got sisters, my mom, and in-laws to make for and I think they might like these. Plus, they're practical. I'm going to make the outside pocket out of mesh so your registration and insurance are visible. Last year I made dishcloths (I knitted them) and they were well-received. |
I have made cell phone pillows for desks, casserole carriers, pillow cases, oven mitts and also bowl cozy’s. This year I had a suggestion of phone wristlets. I will make them for cell phone with room for credit cards and money for times when you just don’t want to carry a big bag.

I made fabric boxes one year and everyone loved them. My sister loves hers so much that she keeps it around all year! I adorned hers with Christmas tree buttons. I got the tute on Youtube.
