I can't tell you how many times I have unsewed and resewed this little mat... It is an Atkinson design.... what did I do wrong... I have worked on this allllll day. Please help... I am going nuts.

It looks like you have it right - I think if you add those outside sashing pieces - it will bring it all into alignment - and make it centered. From what I could tell - you did it right - so try the sashing and see how it looks then.

darlenedowns 06-15-2014 04:45 PM

It's hard for me to really see the pattern but it looks like your whites are not quite in the right place or turned wrong but once again I am having a hard time seeing the pattern. Just count your squares and look at them carefully But to me something is definitely out of wack.

Maureen NJ 06-15-2014 04:48 PM

I agree with Otis. You need to add the rest of the sashing. You have it added on 2 of the 6 sides.

dunster 06-15-2014 04:51 PM

I agree with Otis that you just need a border on 4 sides. I'm not sure that's how it was supposed to go together, but with the border it will have the same result.

joyful1 06-15-2014 04:54 PM

Yep, agree with Otis also. When I block out the two sashings that are added it is in alignment.

quiltingcandy 06-15-2014 05:06 PM

I agree with the others that once you add the additional sashing and layer it so you don't see the seams it will turn out great. But I personally believe they should have used white hexagons in the center instead of the white strips. Once it is quilted and binding put on, it should look like the photo.

Tea dye it?? I too did that pattern and had a bit of trouble. really had to go one thing at a time but finally got it.

Prism99 06-15-2014 06:31 PM

I posted on the other thread about the scorching. Hard to tell for sure from a photo, but it looks to me as if you simply scorched starch rather than burned the fabric. The telltale for me is that the seams are the brownist. This is usually because they stick up enough to collect any burned starch that your iron may be depositing.

Love your FMQ and the pattern. I'll have to get that.

ManiacQuilter2 06-16-2014 03:56 AM

This is the type of pattern that you have to be RIGHT on with ALL your seams otherwise it will be wonky. To me in the photo that center 1/4" seam looks a little skimpy but I think that once you quilt it, that any wonkyness will be able to be stabilized. Cute pattern.

sdeaaz 06-16-2014 05:46 AM

I really love your quilting... it is beautiful... Last night someone suggested that I had scorched the starch and I should soak it over night... I did and most came out... a little on seam lines... I will try lemon juice and sunshine later... tea dying is a great idea or I think if I quilt heavily in those areas, I may be ok.

Did you use any special rulers... I just made templates...

Wow! I love both sides.

MaryMo 06-16-2014 12:04 PM

That's really beautiful, sdeaaz! hoping you feel much better about it now. Nativetexan, your pieces are fascinating. I like those easier versions.

nativetexan 06-16-2014 01:10 PM

Oh Golly, what a rescue! it's lovely!!!

Deb watkins 06-16-2014 04:23 PM

When I did this pattern, I did the background in the white, and the blocks in a patterned fabric. For the back, I reversed it. patterned fabric for the back and white for the blocks. Totally different look.

mcdaniel023 06-17-2014 02:43 AM

That turned out great! I really like it.

Mollie'sMom 06-17-2014 04:21 AM

It looks like all sides should be made like bottom right and top left sides.

Anael 06-17-2014 05:01 AM

It's a beauty! Congrats on finishing :)

HillCountryGal 06-17-2014 05:31 AM

Upper right, top, bottom left, and bottom in this picture, has the small triangles stitched in between the hexies instead of at the outside of each hexie, and bigger triangles in between. That is why four sides don't match the first two finished sides. I hope I made this clear enough to follow PM me if not and I will try to explain better.
sometimes the easy answers boggle the best of us. Lol!

mandyrose 06-19-2014 09:39 AM

that's a pretty topper
