I just made a top from a pattern called OUTSIDE THE BLOCK. Certain sizes of the top call for 1/4 yard cuts, and others call for fat quarters. I'm attaching a pic of a half finished top. It is a very easy pattern and is a great pattern to show off some of the larger size prints.

I really like that. I have a piece of fabric that will have to be fussy cut and i haven't been able to decide on a pattern. That may work.

It's possible, too, that the pattern maker didn't want to bother writing the directions in more than one way. I've seen so many patterns where the cutting directions assume you have one sort of precut, and by the time I've drawn it and crunched all the numbers to convert to yardage, i've made the pattern. Or worse, as in the only pattern I've bought (and likely will ever buy), the explanation for yardage was so vague and dismissive, it was clear that the author didn't think it was worth her time. Although you'd think she'd want you to buy nice, big pieces instead. :)

hugs,
Charlotte

This one is made using a Dresden ruler like a strip quilt. I have this on my bucket list.
