Robert, I have the June Tailor Shape Cut. It has slits that you insert your rotary cutter into to cut perfect strips. Mine is 12x12 with slits every 1/2 inch. If I was going to buy another I would look for a larger one. You can buy the size like mine at JoAnn's and Walmart. I think you have to buy the larger ones over the internet. There is one with 1/4 inch slits that is larger called the Shape Cut Pro. Walmart.com had the best price for that one.

Wonderful, rewarding thing to do. I have helped two friends get started and they have surpassed me with their new found talents. What a good feeling!!!!

Two or three years ago when my youngest (step) daughter moved in with us she wanted to make a curtain for her closet (we removed the bi-fold doors), and she wanted it to look like a quilt without it being a quilt.
So she looked through my massive stash, than I took her shopping and she bought fabrics that she also wanted to use in it. I showed her how to properly use a rotary cutter, rulers, and the mat. After she was done with the cutting I showed her how to sew all the pieces together to make them into blocks. She was doing some techniques that I had never been brave enough to try on my own and since I didn't show her how to do them she just figured it out on her own. She didn't want any "nice" fabric for the back so I let her use some of my unbleached muslin after she sewed the top to the muslin her next step was to put a binding on it, but than she decided get complicated with the binding using the satin blanket binding and wanted to have about 6-12 inch pieces sewn together using multiple colors. Needless to say she never got it finished, now she is gone to college (left June 1, 2011). So maybe someday I will get around to sewing the binding the way she wanted it and make it into a quilt for her s a keepsake from her first and last foray into sewing/quilting. |
