Yesterday I went to lunch with a new friend. She looked through my quilting books and chose a pattern to make for her grandchild due in November. Then off we went to the LQS to find fabric. When we got back to my house I showed her how to cut it out. Was really quick with her using my shape cutter. Monday morning she will be back and I will start her on piecing. Exactly 3 years ago a friend helped me get started and now I am helping someone else!

And someday she will probably help someone else out. And so it goes. Have a great time.

grammiepamie 07-09-2011 10:33 AM

That is an excellent PIF. Good for you.

auntpiggylpn 07-09-2011 10:34 AM

Wonderful!!!

np3 07-09-2011 10:51 AM

Love PIF!

MissSandra 07-09-2011 11:01 AM

Love it, I also inspire my bff to learn something new with each visit, and I also got her started on quilting.
its a great feeling.
Sandra

Ramona Byrd 07-09-2011 11:01 AM

When she thanks you, ask her to pay it forward to someone else.

alikat110 07-09-2011 11:19 AM

Wonderful

Honeynga 07-09-2011 11:23 AM

Wish I had a friend like you. I took a "beginner's class" at LQS and only learned what I was doing wrong as I did it...no real instructions as to basics !

QuiltnNan 07-09-2011 11:50 AM

hooray, another quilter. thanks for the pif.

MoMiMi 07-09-2011 02:25 PM

We all had to learn.
We don't want the craft to end with us....we must pass it on.

ladyshuffler 07-09-2011 03:31 PM

That is so nice of you..........wish I had someone when I was stating out

nursie76 07-09-2011 03:34 PM

What a nice thing to do! I wish I had someone like you to guide me when I started...heck I still do sometimes!

luv-e 07-09-2011 03:41 PM

Me too. I just had books and the one quilt class I took just wasn't the right one....would have loved to even have a quilting buddy back then to bounce ideas off. Have fun!!!!!

SharonTheriault 07-09-2011 04:34 PM

It's so much fun to share what someone has shared with us.

MimiLinda 07-09-2011 04:53 PM

Lucky you ! I always feel good when someone askes me to help them. That's what makes quilters so very special, we like to share. Happy Quilting. :-D

trolleystation 07-10-2011 01:36 AM

Paying it forward really works.

wolfkitty 07-10-2011 01:47 AM

Isn't that such a great feeling? If there could be a lot more of that going on in the world, I think things could go so much smoother and nicer!

carolaug 07-10-2011 03:31 AM

That is how I learned...a friend come over last year and we both made a quilt. she had made them before but not me...I did not even know how to quilt. Last weekend I started to teach my daughter inlaw. and now my good friend that I haven't seen in years wants to learn...I love the quilting world...its a great way to spend time with friends and family.

That is great! I have sucked in my DIL & DD too! Need to know loved ones will have my huge stash when I pass!

grayma 07-10-2011 06:07 AM

That is great! I am slowly getting my daughter hooked, but she has two boys that are very busy with scouting (thank heavens!). She is also a teacher's aide and is always picked for extra projects at school. I am sure when her boys are much older she will have the time and will be glad for everything I have shown her.

rfbrazell 07-10-2011 08:28 AM

Pam, that is what it is all about. Passing it on, loving people, helping others. That is awesome. What kind of cutter do you have?

Sounds like you had a great day with a new friend. Glad you can pay if forward.

ube quilting 07-10-2011 10:01 AM

How wonderful. I have a few friends who always say they want to learn and say they are afraid. Of what, I don't know. They also remind me that they could never do that!

How disappointing it is to not even try. I'm glad you are able to give this great gift to someone.
peace :D

lscho4jm 07-10-2011 10:03 AM

Pam, you are a sweet and generous person. We need a 'like' button on our board. :)

Pam H 07-10-2011 10:09 AM

Robert, I have the June Tailor Shape Cut. It has slits that you insert your rotary cutter into to cut perfect strips. Mine is 12x12 with slits every 1/2 inch. If I was going to buy another I would look for a larger one. You can buy the size like mine at JoAnn's and Walmart. I think you have to buy the larger ones over the internet. There is one with 1/4 inch slits that is larger called the Shape Cut Pro. Walmart.com had the best price for that one.

Pat G 07-10-2011 10:13 AM

Pam, my biggest thrill is to teach somebody else what I have learned. It reinforces how much I've learned so I love to pass it on.

JoyjoyMarie 07-10-2011 11:00 AM

Way to pass it on! So much more fun together!

grumpy90650 07-10-2011 11:21 AM

i just love pay it forward stories....this country needs more of them...i am so glad there are a lot of them on this board!!! gina

MargeD 07-10-2011 11:22 AM

What a great way to build new friendships, especially by quilting. What is it they say, watch one, do one, teach one? We need to keep the spirit of quilting alive and well, and you really are paying it forward.

dixiebelle162002 07-10-2011 11:22 AM

Great and it sounds like a great way to spend the day.

Homemother 07-10-2011 11:31 AM

That's so nice of you!!! Doesn't it feel good to tell someone to pass it on instead of them trying to figure out how to pay you back? Instead of being paid back for kindness, I really want others to go and do a kind deed for someone else and expect nothing in return.

Good for you!!! :P

What a wonderful feeling it is to help someone get started quilting that is interested!!

madamekelly 07-10-2011 02:10 PM

I have always believed in Eleanor Burns philosophy "Each one, teach one".

G'ma Kay 07-10-2011 03:23 PM

God bless you!
