Folks at this stage of life (like me!) have enough "stuff". So I would look for a gift of any kind of service to make life easier--like a house cleaning from a local reliable service, a full service car wash, perhaps a yard cleanup or mowing, a mani/pedi, a massage, etc. whatever you think fits her lifestyle. Gift cards to restaurants or a LQS would be great too.

Lots of great suggestions here. The thread idea sounded great to me, or gift cards.

I also quilt for free for friends & relatives. They often bring me a small gift, but if they would clean (even dust!) while I quilt, that would be stupendous!!! Or do a couple loads of laundry. Or cook a whole meal, even with my groceries. I hate to cook, and for some reason my husband wants to eat EVERY DAY.

I am 61 and if I were your friend....and lived in a house... I'd love help with yardwork. Mowing, raking leaves, weed-eating. I would even enjoy receiving a rose bush or something perennial so I wouldn't have to plant every year.

Find out if she would like help with some of her UFOs or cutting out a project for her. Mani/pedi I would make sure she would like one before making that gift, not everyone wants one. If she is alone you could make some extra at dinner and take over a few frozen home made meals. Or offer to help her do some organizing in her seing room or other room that she has been putting off.

Does she like reading, gardening, pets, etc? How about washing windows or the car (and wax), weeding the garden, making some homemade jam, help her while she is on the LAM, cook dinner, On and on!!!!

I love all your suggestions. I am 65 and anything that "has to be done" could be done by someone else as far as I am concerned. No gift certificate for me except for a restaurant so I would not have to cook loll...

Cash with a thank you note? (But it would be a good idea to continue that with each additional quilt?)
