I am soooo happy to receive your message. I must admit I am too quickly trusting of e-mail messages and would have been caught. Thank you.

This is the PayPal site for "How do I report PayPal fraud or a PayPal Scam?"

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Help/general/TopQuestion4-outside]https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...stion4-outside[/url]

[email protected] is on my contacts list - if I ever get one of these, I forward the message to the SPOOF address to let PayPal know what's going on so they can improve their phishing security measures. They ALWAYS write back to thank me about the scam heads-up. Doing this helps THEM help US.

So if you get anything like this, call paypal, do not click on the link provided. Paypal will as you to send them a copy of the email so they can research and try to figure out who is sending these.

Its wise to keep a list of all the real email addresses of your financial and other important contacts. Compare addresses whenever you get fishy looking email - there's often something about the text that looks unprofessional or as if its a con job. When it is a 'spoof', 'spam' or 'phishing' fraud send it to the spoof dept of your real contact. They do actually investigate and deal with these robbers so it helps everyone to be a whistle blower/snitch. These fakes fool thousands of people every day and earn multi-millions stealing from unsuspecting, unprepared people like us.

clsurz 08-29-2011 08:13 AM

You do not necessarily have to call them and yes one should NEVER click a link from your email, however you can go to your paypal account via your web browser and log in that way.

If it isn't from paypal you will be able to log into your account and if it is, and I seriously doubt it would be, simply because paypal DOES NOT SEND OUT SUCH EMAILS.

If there were a problem with your paypal account you'd know the next time you tried to get into it via the internet and using your web browser to do so.

Key is to real PayPal rules and know what they will do or won't do regarding making contact with us by email and this type email is one thing they would not do. They would not ask you to click on a link in the email but rather ask you to go to there site and log in from there.

Got one from paypay one time.. knew it was a scam but sent it to paypal.. if you didn't look close you would have thought it came from paypal. People will try anything.

I send these to "report spam"

cooper 08-29-2011 08:41 AM

i got several of those and also send them right on to the spoof addy

BellaBoo 08-29-2011 08:47 AM

I've been using PayPal for years. PayPal never sends an email asking for any info. It states that when you sign up. The only time I acknowledge an email from Paypal is order confirmation. Any others that say PayPal I delete. If I think there is a problem I log on to my account and not follow any links in the email. One of many things I like about using Google Chrome browser it will stop any redirected websites from opening. NEVER follow a link in email asking for personal or account info. That's the first thing I was told in a computer class years ago.

lwests 08-29-2011 08:58 AM

I got the same email about 4-5 weeks ago. Never, never do I open anything like that. I sent it to PayPal under their "spam" title.

matraina 08-29-2011 09:05 AM

I got that last week, too. Never, never click on a link in the message of something like that. Call the business yourself to ask the question. They'll probably tell you they will never advise you by e-mail of something like that.

iltoaz 08-29-2011 09:06 AM

I received an email from PayPal and also BofA. I do NOT have accounts with either. Just deleted the emails without opening.

I also got ripped off sometime ago, thinking it was paypal, someone got into my account and took money! skype was it. so I am very cautious about paypal, and change my password a couple of months. When I do receive strange messages I sned them to paypoal. oh and by the way?? when they do contact you, they use your name not "dear customer".

quiltingdiva 08-29-2011 09:47 AM

Thanks so much for the heads up

nikkandmaxxcrafts 08-29-2011 10:03 AM

Nanaquilts44 08-29-2011 10:39 AM

Thanks for the good reminder. I got one from "PayPal" recently too.

EagarBeez 08-29-2011 10:46 AM

I showed this to my DH, he said the very first words after "Dear" would tell you outright that it is a scam. He said any time he has gotten an email from Paypal they always use his name. Another thing he does is not go through any links. Go direct to the site

provbs 31 08-29-2011 11:22 AM

Thank you for the warning!

RuthEm 08-29-2011 11:38 AM

Jingle 08-29-2011 11:44 AM

My Son and Daughter have had emails, supposedly from Pay Pal asking for personal information. They never respond to them. I have not used pay pal.
Thank you for alerting us about this.

#1piecemaker 08-29-2011 12:17 PM

Thanks for the info. This stuff scares me. I've gotten it before. So, glad I didn't do what they say!! Its called phishing.

IBQUILTIN 08-29-2011 12:46 PM

I got one of those emails, and the funniest part is that I do not have a pay pal account. Think I even opened it? Not

ladyredhawk 08-29-2011 12:51 PM

thank you I have recieved one of them before and i just deleted it.I had forgotten all about it till you brought it back up.ty

ploverwi2 08-29-2011 12:56 PM

When I get those, I can forward it to their fraud mail center, and the look into it and get back to me. You are so right, never click on them.

This is called "Phishing" (not a typo). If you go to the Microsoft website and type in the Phishing term in the search, you will see a good explanation and information that will help you catch it when it comes. I would put in the link, but then this e-mail would be moved and no one would see it in with the other replies.

margie77072 08-29-2011 01:09 PM

Thans for the warning>

sylviasmom 08-29-2011 01:17 PM

Received a similiar email from Chase Bank. I do not have an account with Chase. Just deleted it.

quiltingnonie 08-29-2011 01:57 PM

I rec'd the same one last week, and I promptly forwarded it to [email protected]

After not receiving any weird emails for years, I have gotten 4 in the past two weeks. Makes me wonder WHY or WHAT I am doing to get those?????

penski 08-29-2011 02:13 PM

sylvia77 08-29-2011 03:05 PM

I had someone hack into my paypal and withdraw money from my checking acct! I finally got in and transfered the money back in and then promptly closed the account.

BarbZ 08-29-2011 04:12 PM

Thank you so much for this info. I don't have a paypal account yet but will remember this when I get one. It does look real.

Bev 08-29-2011 04:38 PM

I get these pretty regularly. After a few of them you just know they're phony. I forward them to Paypal's team, which Paypal seems to appreciate. 8-)

milikaa1 08-29-2011 04:59 PM

It's a scam, careful....alot of my family and friends emails are getting hacked, two in the past few days.

quiltcanada 08-29-2011 05:19 PM

Thanks for letting us know.

Janice Thompson 08-29-2011 05:39 PM

THANKS FOR THE INFO. AS YET, I HAVEN'T RUN INTO THIS

CruisingStef 08-29-2011 06:08 PM

I received one similar to this several months back and called paypal. It was also a scam. They were trying to get my info.
As someone said on the board, a good way to tell is the salution. If it's scamming it will read "Dear Paypal Member", as opposed to Paypal's knowledge of refering to you by name. They know it, and will use it in all correspondence.
