As I was staring at the 5 pound slab of fudge on my cutting board waiting to be cut, I thought: "Wish I could use my rotary cutter..." I nixed that idea, then AHA!
I dug around the kitchen and armed with my pizza cutting wheel and a plastic ruler (the kind we used in school), I embarked on cutting 5 pounds of perfect 1" fudge squares :-D. The edges are so clean and the pizza cutter made short work of it. A new tradition born!

You're sooooooooo smart!

mrspete 12-12-2010 11:30 AM

Aren't you smart! I know it is as good as it looks!

Thanks for sharing......I still use my mom's she bought in 1961.

Blessings, Ruth

KarenS 12-12-2010 01:21 PM

Amazing idea!! Thanks!

kat13 12-12-2010 03:05 PM

Great idea but I can never get the darned stuff out of the pan in one big block...is there a trick to that?

hmay60 12-12-2010 03:13 PM

Line the pan with foil.

Ah, Maybe you should send me a few pieces that I could, ah test, ya that's it, test, to see if accidentally some of the last pizza maybe got stuck on the fudge...you wouldn't want to serve imperfect fudge to friends at Christmas ;)

earthwalker 12-12-2010 08:06 PM

Ah...the workings of a quilter's mind...sheer brilliance! I haven't made or eaten fudge for years (I love it!)...my mouth is watering picturing those perfect one inch pieces....

Momof3Es 12-12-2010 08:08 PM

I had to read it a couple times...I was trying to figure out what 5 lbs of fudge was a metaphor for!!??? LOL! I hope it was yummy!!

dunster 12-12-2010 08:53 PM

Hey, I'm the local fudge inspector. Bring some over and I'll let you know if the edges are square enough. (And if they're not, I'll even 'em up. Yummm...)

OneMoreQuilt 12-12-2010 08:56 PM

Did you try some HST too? hehehe

LOL! But after watching the news tonite, I'm afraid the fudge might get lost in a snowbank and freeze in your neck of the woods!

Yes it has been a bit snowy, windy , and cold the past few
days, I figure the fudge should keep just fine!

dunster 12-12-2010 09:37 PM

Not here... it's warm here.

Ooooh, I thought you were going to give me a foolproof technique for miniature quilts, instead you made my mouth water. This is a brilliant idea though. Will it work on sandwiches, my son complains that I never cut a straight one. :P

CarrieAnne 12-13-2010 03:03 AM

Great idea!

quilt3311 12-13-2010 05:01 AM

Thanks just in time for my candy making for Christmas. Will be doing fudge the end of the week or first of next week. This will make things go much quicker and a bit cleaner cuts.

nannya54 12-13-2010 05:20 AM

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing that with us. Fudge is on my list this week so this is very timely!

May in Jersey 12-13-2010 05:36 AM

So when are you going to pass around some of those perfect 1" squares for us to sample? LOL! May in Jersey

sewing4kix 12-13-2010 05:41 AM

Great thinking! :)

OmaForFour 12-13-2010 06:12 AM

My recipe says to butter the pan. It doesn't seem to hurt the fudge.

quiltincharlotte 12-13-2010 06:19 AM

That's what I use! Also use it for cutting out gingerbread house pieces, lots of things. Oh, and occasionally pizza!

auntiehenno 12-13-2010 06:31 AM

Yummie! Love the picture on you site.

JeanDal 12-13-2010 06:34 AM

You go! Thanks for the tip!

judith ann 12-13-2010 06:36 AM

Good idea.Works for home made noodles too.j

mhansen6 12-13-2010 07:40 AM

I have been doing this for years. Cutting fudge is a pain and the pizza cutter really makes it a lot easier.

Line your pan with heavy duty foil. Have enough foil so it comes up over the edges of your pan. When the fudge has cooled gently pull up on the foil and the fudge comes out in on big piece.

sewingsuz 12-13-2010 08:03 AM

I just cut 5lbs a few days ago. I'll remember for next time. Thanks for the great idea.

GloBug 12-13-2010 08:44 AM

Arnt you the SMART one. :-P

Surfergirl 12-13-2010 08:55 AM

I wish I had read this post earlier. I just made a large pan of fudge and cutting it into neat squares is always a challenge. Thanks for the tip!

I always line the pan with foil and it works great. I just didn't think to use a pizza cutter and ruler...lol!

Zebra2 12-13-2010 08:59 AM

I used to do daycare and used a pizza cutter to cut up pancakes for the kids. Worked great and they thought it was funny!!

cassiemae 12-13-2010 09:01 AM

What a great idea. Smarty pants :)
