Growing up my mom, sister and I shared a 4th bedroom as a sewing room. We had two sewing machines and a tall drafting table in the center. It was great. Now I covet my DH's music studio. We built that for him when we moved to this house (old rock 'n roll guys are more a pain then young ones). It is 20x20. I share a tiny spare room with the computer and his closet, and it is a walkthru to an outside deck. I wish we had built a double room when we built his studio

I now use what used to our family room, but it came the hard way. I was sewing in the small, 9x12, spare room. But my husband, who is 56 years old, was unable to walk this past January due to severe arthritis damage. He had an operation at Jefferson Hospital is Philly that restored some of his ability to walk with a walker. But he couldn't get up the one step into our family room addition. So my son suggested that I make it my sewing room. It took me awhile to accept another big change in our lives, but I like it now.

We decided to purchase a shed about a year ago to put all my quilting stuff in. I finally moved in a few months ago. It's 14' X 24' and I love it! It only has two small windows and windows in the door, but I wanted the wall space more than the windows. I have my LA in the back, my cutting table in front of the LA, my 6ft ironing board on top of an old dresser along one wall, bookcases and shelves along the other, my sewing area in the front and a recliner for my DH next to that. I even have a small refrigerator under my sewing table. I sometimes wish it was a little larger, but I'm not complaining...I feel very blessed to have the space I have. The shed is right outside my back door, so we built a small deck that is attached to both. I posted while it was being built, but now that it is finished, I'll post a couple more! It isn't straightened up, I've got three quilts going....

I hope everyone's dreams come true!

Wow - you guys have me repurposing my living spaces w/ these great ideas!! I do live by myself, so no kids or dh to work around - the 2 cats don't care as long as i leave them a window or 2 to get into, and a soft place to lay.

I have a dream new home and with it I got a dream sewing room the size of a three car garage. The problem is that I have not had time to get it organized, but someday soon my dreams will be realized. I have hardwood floors, a floor to ceiling 12x12 design space that was built into the room; a computer with printer, a TV, computerized quiltframe (it is a Bernina) and two Horn full cabinets. I also have a large storage room with floor to ceiling shelving. Also built into my sewing room are floor to ceiling built-in shelving covering one end. Our new home is on a mountain size and to avoid a very steep driveway, we got a full basement making the house three stories. A lot to clean, but I am now retired and enjoying every minute. I have always worked outside the home at a high tech stressful job and managed to save money for this room while I was working and both my children went to medical school and are now physicians. Could I have accomplished this in today's economy? I doubt it.

My perfect seeing room would be where all of the fabric is neatly organized, everything is where it belongs, there's a lot of natural light, a large design wall, an oversized cutting mat as well as an oversized ironing station and room for friends to come by and see with me.

Tons of windows to let in the natural light- large room at a quiet end of the house. Tv and stereo. Walls would be light pink- my Mom's favorite color and I learned to be crafty from her! Room for a long arm, and several sewing machines and a serger so I can work on several projects at a time on different machines. I think this is one of the things I dream about the most when I play the lottery!

I recently built a sewing room on the third floor of our house. It is 20 x 20 and that is plenty of room for the koala cutting table, and the koala big sewing machine cabinet. I also have a quilting machine with the queen size frame set up. I amazingly still have plenty of room to store material and everything else. I have had a separate building before but I prefer to be in the same house as my husband. I guess even though I'm upstairs, it doesn't seem like I am leaving him. lol
