Exactly why I wash them before gifting, just to make sure ... I'm looking and thinking, maybe a bit of iron-on interfacing on the underside of both pieces to stabilize them, then carefully blind stitch them together? And then an applique (the giftee's initial, perhaps?) if it still looks a little raggedy? Good luck, it looks like a fun quilt!

Wow - good thing you caught that - I realize now why you should wash it before you gift it - I wonder what caused that and how do you fix it??? Let us know so if it happens to us we can fix ours - thanks for sharing

Oh so sorry, hope you are able to get it fixed ok.

If this is an example of your quilting, I have every confidence that you can fix this small "boo-boo". And, if this is the back of the quilt, I would love to see the front.
I'm sorry that this happened but, it is fixable. I would turn the edges under, press, put a small piece of fusible webbing under the split, make press again and then blind stitch the entire seam. Hopefully there is enough fabric. Your quilt is beautiful and I'm sure your roommate will love it. |
An applique heart is called for!!

I hate when this happens. Applique is a good idea per klnsmith!

I have pulled out the quilting and the damaged portion (the red swirl and white piece) and I also ripped out extra stitches on each side of this area. I think I will be able to sew the bias seam on the sewing machine. Then I believe that I will have to hand sew the other three sides. Will let you know how it goes!! |
