You could leave the paper on even after you create the block using the four sections and even after that.....remove the paper as you are constructing the quilt...like in EPP, remove the paper after each block is securely sewn on all sides to another...that will keep it in shape...a choice you can make

I use starch all the time now and it has helped me so very much. Applique was the only thing I used starch for before and then I read an article about using it before cutting and it has made things much better.

I agree starching before cutting out your fabric but I really like a stiff starch. I use Sta-Flo mixed half with water. I should own stock in the company. Good luck.

Why is there so much hype about the perils of bias edges? The only time I find it a major issue is if I have to unsew multiple times on the same piece. Otherwise it's just another triangle.

Go to Missouri Star quilts and look at tutorials, Jenny has a terrific one that you paper piece and uses a clue stick.
