Periwinkle quilt. Bias edges?
 

I am thinking about doing a periwinkle quilt, but looking at the directions, every edge appears to end up as being on the bias. Have anyone made one and are the edges a problem? Or is it possible to set the pieces together in such a way, to have straight edges for the outside edges of the block? Any help or suggestions are very welcome

Doing a quick google search, it appears this is all paper pieced so the bias edges should not be a problem. Just don't take off your papers until you are at a point where all of your outside edges are on grain. This may not be until the entire top is done...not sure.

I used the Kite Go die and didn't have a problem. I have made the blocks doing the foundation backing and the bias edges didn't matter that much. Quilts made for national shows to win money, the fabric is usually fused with Misty Fuse or other whisper light interfacing before cutting. No stretch or distortion in any block.

Starching before cutting the fabric works for me. :thumbup:

I try to avoid bias edges whenever possible. PP makes working with bias edges a breeze.

Did'nt Missouri Star just do a u tube on this block? She makes everything so easy!

When I paper pieced my 6" blocks (Mill and Stars, EQ Brackman Blockbase #2324) all of the blocks' outside edges were on the straight of grain. Are you up to drafting your own pattern?

Paper piecing will protect you from a problem with the bias edge. Good luck

Handling the blocks carefully should help too. I don't starch anything nor do paper piecing. I just ry to never pull or distort when ironing.

I started using starch a few months back and now wouldn't be without it especially for working with bias cuts.
