Perseverance always wins

I started this quilt about the same time I started quilting again, about 2013. I finally put the blocks together last year. It was so out of square, one edge was about two inches longer than the other. I said to heck with it and threw it into the scrap basket for about six months. I took it out last week and decided to go ahead and quilt it regardless. So. Of a gun, it's almost even now??? Go figure.

That is a really pretty quilt. I like how the careful placement of the red creates the design.

cashs_mom 06-16-2017 09:20 AM

It must have fixed itself in the scrap basket :D Great color!

Doggramma 06-16-2017 09:25 AM

It's really pretty

JuneBillie 06-16-2017 09:28 AM

That is so pretty, and is that some little puppy dog faces in some of those pieces?

Tartan 06-16-2017 09:36 AM

Well done! It just needed a time out in the scrap basket to smarten up.:)

Looks great!

QuiltnNan 06-16-2017 10:48 AM

glad you finished, it looks great

That's terrific! You did a beautiful job. It's great that the quilt came out right.

One of the best things a person can do is walk away for a while. I am currently working on a snowman quilt that was started in January of 2015. It sat as a UFO twice, but this is a good thing as it gave me time to decide what I wanted to do with each block.

quiltsRfun 06-16-2017 11:41 AM

You put it in "time out" and it straightened itself out. LOL It's beautiful. I live this pattern.

nanibi 06-16-2017 11:46 AM

It's really a pretty quilt, and the dotted red makes a subtle consistence. Very nice!

Looks great, sometimes the quilting helps to even out wonky or stretch pieces.

I really like the pattern the red and blues form. Nice job on this UFO.

Jingle 06-16-2017 05:43 PM

Very pretty. So glad you decided to finish it.

That's a beautiful quilt! I think you have a Magic Basket, and you should rent it out. :D

I agree. Perhaps you measured wrong the first time, or perhaps the timeout helped the quilt top. Either way, it's very pretty.

celwood 06-17-2017 05:06 AM

Very pretty

EmiliasNana 06-17-2017 05:40 AM

Glad you finished it as it is beautiful.

annette1952 06-17-2017 05:56 AM

Such a beautiful quilt. Aren't you glad now that you finished it? Now you can start another one! lol

joe'smom 06-17-2017 06:27 AM

That's really pretty -- so worth finishing. Well done!

KathyJ 06-17-2017 06:27 AM

Wonderful colors. Beautiful quilt. Mine are not usually square when in use anyway so I just enjoy the process & quilt on. Great job. Kathy

I really like your quilt. I'm glad it's time out convinced it to straighten it's ways. :)

Sometimes projects do improve with age; it's happened to me twice! Once a top was so poorly made I couldn't handle it, and put it away in disgust. When I got it out a year later, it only needed one small, 5-minute fix, and then it was fine. The other was hideously ugly, and got stuck in the back of a closet out of shame. I got it out almost 5 years later to show a friend what horrible colour sense I used to have, and it turns out it was beautiful! (that was when I learned that even if something doesn't work out as I had envisioned, that doesn't mean it's bad).

This is actually a strategy that I use now... if I'm disappointed by a project, I put it away to rediscover in the future. I'm thinking of making a little sign that says "Time heals all quilts".

Where did you buy that scrap basket? I want one.

farmquilter 06-17-2017 07:17 AM

The quilt is very pretty, the red triangles really set it off. Well worth the time out for a good finish.

klswift 06-17-2017 07:19 AM

Good job, it's very nice. And how good do you feel having gone back and finished it? Very often these quilts end up being our favorites because of the sense of accomplishment we feel having done it!

Mary Christine 06-17-2017 07:38 AM

Very pretty! I'm glad it came to its senses and decided to behave!:p

trolleystation 06-17-2017 07:54 AM

Perseverance did indeed pay off.....Great scrappy...Love the red placement

llong0233 06-17-2017 11:14 AM

Would have been a real shame to lose this beauty to the scrap heap. Good for you for your perseverance. It's a great looking quilt.

Becky's Crafts 06-17-2017 04:04 PM

What a wonderful quilt!! The use of that red print was genius!! :-) Love it!!

ccthomas 06-17-2017 05:17 PM

Nice quilt.

qltnmom 06-17-2017 09:38 PM

So, the phrase "it'll quilt out" must be right! 😁

I love the asymmetrical layout. Good job.

Taughtby Grandma 06-18-2017 02:34 AM

Very pretty. I like the doggie faces peaking out.

liking quilting 06-18-2017 02:34 AM

Well done! Your time out must have worked. There have been more than one of my quilts that I just said, it will be the size it ends up (not squared up or even on both ends) and I've lived with it. Part of my growing in this hobby. I've now tried harder to square things up as I go along. Also: Your color sense is wonderful!

Painiacs 06-18-2017 04:07 AM

Glad it was finished. Great job!

quilterpurpledog 06-18-2017 04:21 AM

I really like your quilt. Your placement of the red/white polka dot HST really is stunning. I'm glad you finished it.

Wanabee Quiltin 06-18-2017 04:53 AM

That red fabric sure make it zing. Very nice UFO.

quiltingbuddy 06-18-2017 06:52 AM

Perfect in every way, especially the fact that it got finished. I had one that did not come out as a perfect rectangle and I just did a little more quilting in a few strategic spots and it came out right too. I love that you didn't have to manipulate the fixing...it did it to itself during it's time-out. Too funny!

Kitsie 06-18-2017 07:57 AM

So glad you finished it! Its a great quilt, very "I'm a quilt" look!

Cybrarian 06-18-2017 11:53 AM

Beautiful!! So glad you are finishing it!!!
