Thanks to everyone who gave their input about the Pfaff. A super big thanks to those who provided website info/photos/video. I haven't heard back from the man who said he would sell it to me, so I'm going to contact him and find out if he's come up with a price. If he has decided that he doesn't want to sell it, I've found a Janome Travel Mate 4612 for $35. This is also a machine I don't know much about, so if any of you have personal experience with a Travel Mate, please tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks again.

My response may be too late, but I just stumbled on to this thread--I have a Pfaff 927 and I LOVE it!. My mum gave me her's after letting it sit for years. It is great for piecing, which I do a lot. I have also used it for purse making because I really like the zipper foot. I also like that it has a very small free arm, which is great if you're sewing small sleeves. The Pfaff is my travel and class machine because it's the lightest machine I own--but it's NOT really a light machine, my other 2 are really heavy. It's not one of those machines that will bounce around on your table.
So, anyway, if you did get this machine, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for your info, but the gentleman decided not to sell. He said it was too sentimental. I understand, but I was disappointed too.

That's too bad--but that only means that there's an even better machine out there waiting for you to find it. Happy hunting!

I have a hobbymatic 947, that I have had for over 20 years, bought it used in AK for $400. it works great and have never had a problem with it. mine does not Have IDT, but does a nice stitch, has about 20 stitches, most I have never used. I used to use it for classes as it was fairly light weight (untill I got my FW, will use that for classes now). mine weighs 15 pounds, I still love my little Hobbymatic, and will keep it, hope this helps.
