Got a bit inspired by a floor tile design on Star Ocean 3. Trying to get it into a working quilt design. But it has these clover designs that I can't figure out for the life of me how to make without going applique. Help?

Here you go, a foundation pieced 4 leaf clover pattern, looks simple too and it has instructions on pp :D

From the looks of the pattern it looks like it has more triangular leaves. I need something resembling as close as a clover as possible without going applique...so curvier(?) leaves. I'm sorry, I should of been more specific. :( I'll keep the link in handy though (could use the paper piecing info :)).

I'm using Paint for this so bear with me. This is what I came up with and it does require a sort of applique. this is based on half square triangle theory so all in all you'll need 4 HST to make this block. I'd use dryer sheets or lightweight stabilizer, draw your circle on the stabilizer and put it on top of a green piece of fabric with the fabric face up. lay your green fabric face up on the table then put your stabilizer on top of thatStitch around the whole circle, then trim it to 1/4 inch of the stitched lines. Make a small clip in the stabilizer and turn it inside out. Your green fabric should be facing out and your circle will have finished edges ready to be stitched down either by hand or machine. Place this in the center of your background square. I would stitch it down by machine around the whole circle. You'll have to make your square big enough to allow for seam allowance because you are going to cut diagonally across the circle block from corner to corner to make 2 of the half circle triangles. Make 2 circle blocks to cut apart to equal the 4 leaves of the clover. The middle parts or the pointy parts of the clover can be done either by paper piecing or by drawing it out and cutting your pattern apart adding 1/4 inch around each piece for seam allowance.

or you can make them into Ice Cream cones! ( I kinda suck at the coloring in part of Paint lol) wow, I think I just figured out what my first grandbaby quilt will be, thanks V!

The clover/ice cream cones looks great but what happens in the center of the fabric where all the points come together.....would you have a knot of fabric that would keep the square from lying flat?

That won't quite work either because the leaves aren't heart-shaped like a real clover....
Wait a minute...isn't there a pieced heart block somewhere out there? |

I'm not sure Auntluc. I have a Carol Doak book I need to dig out and read up on how she handles points coming together. She's my all-time favorite paper piecing designer.

ok her book says to just use a pressing cloth if its bumpy. I bet I'd have to just be careful and choose fabrics that are not really thick. I've never "twirled" a center seam like that so I'll just have to experiment with it.
