teddyBear Lady,
French seam...hides raw edges. Put fabric WRONG sides together. Sew a seam. Trim the seam. Turn the fabric right sides together having the just trimmed seam "trapped" inside. Sew another seam enclosing the trimmed seam. Now you have no raw edges!

I just make my own pattern for whatever size pillow case I need. If I add a second fabric at the opening, I use my serger to finish it off.

So how do you get the flap inside that stops your pillow coming out,or seeing in the side of it.

I'm making them for my grandkids so that they have pillow cases on thier pillows and not on the floor. It's easy. The ends of the case are sewed together and the opening is in the back; either in the middle or to one end; Instead of sewing them together you hem the ends and overlap them before sewing up the sides. It's kind of like making covers for cushions.
