some people use mugs for sticking things in, I use gramma's planters from her sun porch.
I have my 1x5 rulers in one, sugar cubes in another, and triangular coffee filters in another.

Has anyone made a pincushion out of a vintage novelty planter? The ceramic kind that have an animal that you can put a houseplant in. I hope you know the kind I mean.

I saw some at a quilt show made into pincushions & I thought it was a great idea! I have an old one that belonged to my grandma. It's been years since it had a plant in it. Since she taught me my sewing skills, it would be neat to have it in my sewing room. I did a search here on QB for pincushions and found 40 pages!

I haven't made even a simple pincushion before, so to put one in a planter might be kind of tricky. I suppose I could make a sample first.

Beyond simple. I like using rolled up fleece trimmings, but scrap batting is fine. Cut the fleece as high as you need it, and then roll and put in planter. Put glue on the bottom before you put the fleece in. Cut a piece of fabric big enough to cover the fleece. Put glue just inside the lip of the planter. Place fabric over fleece and tuck in. done.

Never thought about something like this. I'm sure going to make some of these as gifts for my quilting friends!

I used to see dozens of these planters at rummage sales. They've either been thrown away or maybe put on shelves. Haven't seen one for a few years

I collect these little planters, of certain glaze colors. In our area they are often $12-20! I have my favorites along my kitchen windowsill. I use them to keep stuff in, like my marking pens at my sewing machine. Haven't done a pincushion yet, but I plan to. Thanks for the tutorial.

Small demi teacups are pretty as pincushions, too. You glue the cup to the saucer for a more stable base.

My daughter made me a cup/saucer pincushion many yrs ago and I still use it......great idea to use small planters......I go to goodwill and check out cups...if I see an odd one I buy it....hold many "quick reach for" things....and add color humor to the chore at hand. And easily and cheaply relaceable

Thanks for this. And thanks everyone for your ideas! I may practice on a cheapie before I do the planter I'm thinking of.
