This is perfect. I have a pattern in mind and it only needs 26 blocks, so I should be able to keep up. Can't wait to see the results.

Count me in. I have a quilt that I have been waiting on to start now I have the motivation to go for it. Thanks. I don't think it take 78 pin wheels but I will make others out my stash or scraps to make up to that number. Thank for this push K

Thanks for the measurement. The formula says 5.8 so yours are close enough. It's correct that you then subtract .5 to get the finished size so yes, use that to figure out how many blocks to make for a twin size.

Thanks!

I guess by now everyone has their fabric all picked out of their stash or are awaiting a delivery of fabric ordered or purchasing at the store.
We should have an idea how many blocks we want to make for the size we want to make.
Remember it's OK to revise your plan anytime! I never know what I will finish with until it's finished.
Our plan is to make one pinwheel block a day or at least average one block a day! :-D
Good for you who are planning ahead and thinking about hip surgeries and your work schedules.
I plan to keep all my fabric needed right there in my face near my machine so I don't get bogged down with life and forget about it! I don't need any more UFO'S!
Together we can do this!
:-D

The formula according to Ceil is:
The size of your beginning square 5" minus .5 times 1.4 minus .5

So 5 -.5 = 4.5
4.5 x 1.4 = 6.3
6.3 - .5 = 5.8 the size of your unfinished block
5.8 - .5 seam allowance = 5.3 the size of your finished block.
This is the sew around the edge method and the sizes come out a little different than just regular blocks.

It won't matter as long as ALL your blocks are the same size.

I am starting with 8" squares so mine would be:
8 - .5 x 1.4 - .5 = 10" then take off the seam allowance and I will have 9.5" blocks sewn together.

If you haven't made a practice block yet just take two different scrap fabrics and cut them into 5" square and make one. It might make you more comfortable with this method.
OR
you could start with a larger block.
