Today is day 76!
WOW the time has certainly flown!

quilter53 04-29-2011 07:53 AM

I'm sorry thought that might have been confusing. I'm not talking about making the pinwheel block. When taking any block and adding triangles to the sides to make it a larger square. How do I measure the triangles on the outside of the block. Confusing again? Sorry.

Sounds like you want the block on point similar to the quilt above.
Try this site for a good explanation.
http://quiltbug.com/Articles/on-point.htm
See if that helps. If I am wrong again sorry just post again and we will figure it out.
Maybe if you told us the size you have and the size you want that would help.
:-D

Today is day 77!
Everyone should be almost finished unless you needed to make a lot more pinwheels.
Pictures please!!!
:-D

I hope this chart will be what you are looking for, it has really come in handy for me, and there are more helpful things at this web site too.

Say you have a 5 inch block and want to add triangles to make a bigger block, look under finished size go to 5" and go across to column Cut for QST which is 6 1//4 then cut this square from corner to corner making 4 trianges and sew onto your 5" square. Hope this helps

hi BettyB - love your quilt. Good things do come out of mistakes.

Thank You I think this is what I need. I will keep this for future reference. I decided to do my quilt another way. Thanks again.

quilter53 04-30-2011 07:38 AM

I am excited I have all my blocks finished. I stayed up late last night because I couldn't quilt. I wanted to get the first 2 blocks quilted, QAYG. I love it but am having so much trouble with the thread raveling on the fmq. Hopefully, I will have it finished by next week. Deadlines aren't for me to keep, it seems lately.

quilter53 04-30-2011 07:40 AM

I am wondering what will we do next? This has been a fun challenge.

Drum roll please!

Ta Dah! Today is day 78! The end of our pinwheel project.
Everyone should have their 78 blocks, or however many your goal was, finished!
Now, if you haven't already, get those blocks put together and not tucked away hiding!

I'm sure lots of you are not finished but that's OK. Keep plugging away and before you know it, you will be done!
It's been a lot of fun.
I hope to continue to see pictures of your great quilts. I finally got my camera working I think. Now if I can just get a picture on here soon I will.
Thanks for joining me!

:-D :-D :-D

This was fun. I ended up ahead. 87 total, plus one i slipped and cut wrong. I made it into a coaster! time to get the design wall out!

SandyinZ4 05-01-2011 02:56 PM

It was a fun project to do and I very much enjoyed seeing everyone's finished pinwheels. Great job everyone.

I didnt make 78 pinwheels only around 50-60. I only used part of them in this small quilt. Here's a pic of the blocks on my design board and 2 of the QAYG blocks that are done. The true colors don't come thru real well on the camera but I'm pleased with the results.

Quilter54 05-01-2011 03:43 PM

Everyone's is so creative. I love seeing all of them.

VickiM 05-01-2011 04:35 PM

Quilter53...love the blocks in between your 4-patch pinwheels. Going to look good!

thank you. It's a preprinted fabric but thought it would fit with pinwheels.

Wow...what a great idea! I have panels that are meant to be for pillows, never thought to use them inbetween pieced squares. Will do that for sure now...yours looks lovely.

I have a lot of left over preprint blocks too, very good idea, and yours look really good with your pinwheels.

Thank you. It was a hard decision what to do. There are so many beautiful ideas here. Every time I would see another top here I would go again. :)

susiequilt 05-02-2011 05:45 PM

I love to see more pinwheel ideas!
Keep them coming.
Very nice blocks both of you.
:-D

kimscruzer 05-03-2011 03:16 AM

I LOVE your black pinwheels. They have taken on a modern flair. When I first looked at them , I did not see the pinwheels. They are awesome! I may have another project in the works. ; )

I haven't been too active on this thread, but I did make a number of giant pinwheels, starting with 9 1/2 " sq so I will have a good sized quilt. I haven't gotten it together yet, but I'm thinking about how to do it. Thanks for this idea, I'd never have undertaken pinwheels without all the moral and practical support!

dhanke 05-03-2011 11:58 AM

That's so clever, what a great way to use pillow panels. I may have another pinwheel project in the near future!

OK, I did this to finish up the last of the pinwheels...they are different sizes so just grabbed some stash and went for it...guess it didn't turn out too bad. Now I must get busy and sandwich & quilt & bind all these quilt tops I've emassed! No more quilttops till I do...

See topic "pinwheel challenge quilt top" to see what I did with my blocks--actually I have enough left over to make a baby quilt.

SandyinZ4 05-04-2011 06:35 PM

VickiM- You proved that it doesn't take much to make a sweet little quilt. You will be busy for a while. :-)

cjr 05-04-2011 08:09 PM

VickieM,
Thanks for suggestion. My blocks are scrappy and all different sizes. I like how each of yours are impportant.
