2" squares = 1" HST 2 1/2" = 1 1/2 3 1/2 " = 2" 4" - 2 1/2 5" = 3 1/2 6" = 4 7" = 4 1/2 8" = 5" 8 1/2 = 5 1/2 9" = 6 9 1/2" = 6 1/2" 10" = 7 It is the second number x2 - 1" = size of finished blocks So: I'd say start with a 9 1/2" block. 9 1/2 = 6 1/2 6 1/2 x 2 - 1" = 12 inches SHOULD be your finished block. Please make a scrap block with waste fabric first! I have not made these but if your seams are correct your block should be the correct size. :-D Be sure and watch the Missouri quilt co tutorial also! |
I also am in on the fun. I'll be nice to say each night....oops time is getting away from me...guess I'll go up to my quilt studio now and make my pinwheel. I'm always thought that if you get just a little time in each night....you can get a lot of sewing done.

I would like to start out doing a baby quilt, my daughter is having her second baby in August so I would like to surprise her with a baby quilt. One that would either go for a boy or girl. So how many charm packs would I need to purchase. Thanks

I'll join in the fun. I have so many projects going what's one more to get behind on? LOL

I would LOVE to be a part of the Pinwheel Project. It is time for me to get back to quilting. My stash is calling to me. Thanks.

Hi Susie
Count me in. Have never done pinwheels but always wanted to make a quilt with one. Will have to do catch up on weekends. |

For a baby quilt I'd make it 36"x42" and then add at least 6" of border (3" each side" Babies have a habit of growing fast.) You will be using 5" squares to make 6" pinwheels by the sew around method. That would be 6 x 7 = 42 pinwheels. you need 2 5" squares for pinwheels and 2 for background. You need 84 charms for pinwheels and 84 for background. If each charm pack has 42 then 2 pkgs for pinwheels and 2 pkgs for backgrounds. That doesn't leave you any extras for mistakes but that's what they make seam rippers for! Glad to have you join us. :-D |
